Alexa's POV:
CRASH!
"Oh god!" I yelped as I pulled the glass out of my foot.
"What in the world was that noise?!" Alpha Jake yelled as he walked into the kitchen. He had a pack member hanging off of his arm and for a minute, I couldn't tell who. I took my time to answer as my eyes scanned from her to the Alpha and instantly, I fell in love with him again. His blonde hair fell into his face as he walked; his jeans and white shirt that was ripped and only added to his style. Aw man, I thought dreamily as I looked at him.
"Stop checking out your Alpha!" The girl beside him shouted at me, causing me to jump a little. When I finally looked back at her, I realised that it was Jay, a senior in high school and the Beta's daughter. I looked at her and saw how perfect her blonde hair looked with her outfit, like it always did. With the feeling of unimportance moving through my body, I look back at my foot and continued to pick out the glass.
"What did you do?" Alpha Jake asked. His voice instantly caused me to stiffen up like I normally do every time I hear it.
"I dropped a glass plate," I said slowly while still looking down. Alpha Jake sighed and shook his head and for those first few seconds, I thought I was in for it.
"Alexa, hurry up and get the glass out and do dinner," Alpha Jake said as he left the room. It took me a few minutes to recover from my flustered and sweaty mess but when I finally finished getting the glass out, cleaning it up and putting it in the bin, there was five minutes before my cooking time was up and serving time was to start. I took the cake out of the oven, only to find that it was burnt to a crisp.
I frowned while wiping sweat from my forehead. The kitchen was very hot, and it didn't help what my dress was sticking to my skin. When I looked at the clock, I almost choked on a breath. In my moment of crisis, another slave, who was walking into the kitchen to sweep, stopped for a few seconds to put her dirty and greasy, brown hair into a bun.
"I haven't done anything! I'm done for!" I whispered to her. Her eyebrows rose as she leaned towards me to whisper back.
"What'd you do?" She asked me, her voice as urgent as mine.
"I didn't make them any food! I was trying to clean up the mess I made," I whispered, my eyes pricking with tears that reached the brim but weren't yet game enough to fall.
"You'll get put in the slicer. You're going to lose an ear!" She whispered. We went silent as we heard talking and laughing coming from a very familiar voice, feed through the air and move into the kitchen. Footsteps became louder and I watched as my peer moved back towards the corner of the kitchen, watching but not doing anything.
I panicked as Alpha Jake walked in and approached me. I've really done it this time. I'm so going to lose something for this! I thought as I started listing what he could take from me. My breathing started to rapidly speed up as I ran to the other end of the Kitchen. When Alpha Jake saw the mess, I had made with the food; burning the cake, starters messily prepared and no main course ready for them, he clenched his hands. He looked at me with fury in his eyes and I whimpered.
"It's serving time. Why is there no quality food?" Alpha Jake asked me in a dangerously low voice. I didn't say anything. My mind went blank and everything turned into a blur. My heart was racing, and my palms were sweaty as I considered the most dangerous move I'll ever make while in this pack. In a split second, I ran out of the Kitchen's second exit.
I made my way through the house with people shouting at me. I had a few people try to grab my arm, but I somehow dogged them, slipping through bodies and ducking under grasping hands. I kept running, my feet hitting the fake, wooden floor, until I was outside.
I knew what I wanted, what I wished for and I have the opportunity right this second. So, I took it. I ran away from the front door and just kept running without looking back once. For a while, as I ran, I heard nothing but the wind and birds. I moved through the tree line and into the woods, still hearing sweet sounds. I slowed to a walk and watched the yellow and brown leaves around me fall to the floor. It wasn't until I heard the patter of a Lycan's paw on the ground that I realised I had more running to do. They aren't going to give up that easily.
The faint pitter-patter of their paws made me aware that I wasn't running for my safety. I was running for my life! I started running again, smiling when I saw the border that so many escaping peers before me have tried to cross. I've almost done it! I'm almost free! I thought. Nothing can stop me!
I had almost reached the boarder when the Alpha's wolf tackled me to the ground. I cried out in pain as my fragile body hit the floor. I hit the wolf in the chest, but it didn't fight back. It made no move for attack. I kicked, punched and scratched as I called out.
"This isn't fair! I was supposed to be free! This isn't fair!" I finally poked the wolf in the eyes, and it moved away from me in pain, shaking its head while whining. I wasted no time as I made a move for the boarder. Finally crossing the border, I felt good. I felt like I had fought against a giant and won.
Feeling triumphant, I looked back at the werewolf's lining up at the border. Each of them had their eyes trained on my right arm. I thought nothing of it as I looked at it myself. It was bleeding but my blood wasn't blood red; it was a bright red, almost glowing.
I looked away, a nasty feeling in my stomach taking over my victorious feeling. Taking one last look at the wolves, a smirk appeared on my face before I ran from the boarder. I ran for hours, my lungs aching, feet sprinkled with blood and my head pounding. I slowed down after I figured I was far enough away from the boarder and found a small puddle of water. It wasn't deep but it did look clean. I smiled as I thanked the gods for helping me through this event.
I collapsed beside it and scooped up water, drinking from my hands. I used the puddle to clean my feet and face before moving to my arm with the crusted, dry blood. It was still red but not as bright as it was. I gently cleaned my wound using the puddle. It was no longer clear, partly red and brown.
I sat in front of the puddle for a bit, taking in my reflection. I saw a pretty girl with brown hair that reached just past her shoulders. She had an orange and white, wavy dress on and was tall-ish. I smiled and she smiled back at me. Exhaustion was slowly taking over me and suddenly, when I thought I could no longer stay awake, I fell back into the puddle, hearing a big splash fill my ears. I smiled to myself and fell asleep.
In the puddle.
