Newbie (Bucky x Reader)

Starting to open up

By the time you got back, your report was done on your phone and officially emailed to both Tony and to Steve. You left out the part where you two made out in the communications room, and noted while looking over Bucky's shoulder that he did too. You received an email from Steve almost instantly of a photo of Daisy in her nest on his bed with three toys in there with her, and Alpine laying directly outside of it. You couldn't help the grin that went across your face. You promptly showed it to Bucky who gave a smile.
"They're friends already" you smiled proudly.
"That's great doll, just think of the possibilities" he winked at you. You flushed a bit thinking of having Alpine in your room more, and therefore Bucky as well. You didn't want to get ahead of yourself.
"Well, Alpine can visit Miss Daisy anytime" you flushed.
"I'll have to come, you know, for supervision" he leaned into you again as you both started walking inside.
"I can't wait to go get changed" you sighed, taking off your gear. "I feel almost naked in this thing"
"I'm not complaining, except that other guys see you in it" he shrugged.
"Careful, your making it sound like your jealous man" Clint chirped from behind you both.
"I'm man enough to admit it" Bucky shrugged.
"We've been on one date" you reminded him.
"That's cute" Bucky smirked.
"What's cute?" you asked as you started taking off your holsters walking out the door.
"That you think we are stopping at one or two" he chuckled making your face turn red again.
"I'll believe it when it happens" you shrugged and walked out.

By the time you were showered and changed into your swimsuit with leggings and a t-shirt on top, it was supper time. You put on a pair of sneakers and headed out seeing Bucky come out of his room dressed nicely in jeans and a dark blue Henley with Alpine on his shoulder.
"No Daisy?" he sounded surprised.
"I trust Steve took care of her. I needed a shower" you gave a small smile and continued walking. He followed you to the dining room, stopping only to drop off Alpine at his food dish and pulled out your chair. You gave a quick smile and sat down.
"How did the mission go?" Tony asked quickly.
"It went well, only one Hydra agent dead" you nodded. "No bullet holes, no cuts, no bruises. You have the report"
"I saw, well done. I saw you left the data on my desk in the lab" he nodded.
"I started going through it, you got a lot for us. Thank you" Bruce smiled. "We have almost enough to start targeting larger bases"
"Oh, that sounds fun" you rubbed your hands together.
"What's the plan for tonight?" Nat looked at you with a smirk.
"Relaxation" you spoke cryptically and you saw Bucky look at you from the side of your eye. "A lot of relaxation"
"Do we really have to do the VA meeting tonight?" Bucky asked Sam.
"We go every Monday Buck" Steve looked at him.
"Yeah Buck, you go every Monday. Don't change your plans" you chimed in. He heard him groan to himself.
"Besides, the group likes to hear your progress, especially now that you have Alpine" Sam reminded him.
"Lets do a girls night" Wanda spoke up quickly.
"No, I've got plans" you shook your head.
"I know what your plans are, you don't need to do it alone. It will be fun" Wanda gave a smile, and you knew instinctively your plans for the night were over.
"Do you mind if I bring Daisy to the VA?" Steve looked at you seriously. "She's been so good today, and I'd love for them to see how well she does as a therapy dog"
"Sure, I don't mind. Where is she anyways?" you looked around.
"She's passed out in my room again with all her toys" Steve flushed a little.
"Do you mind if I go see her before you take her?" you bit your bottom lip and saw Bucky staring down at your lips again. Your mind went to what happened earlier during the mission and your breath hitched a little.
"I'd love that, you can see my room too. I have a lot of art on the walls" he smiled.
"Steve is our resident artist" Nat whispered to you.
"I'd love to see your work" you smiled widely.
"Oh, since you don't know Newbie, payday is Friday. We got your financial information from Shield transferred over. You've gotten a bit of a raise from yours truly" Tony smirked.
"I've been saving up for something, so thank you" you gave a soft smile. "I forgot to ask about salary"
"Your father didn't" Steve chuckled. "He didn't want you to need for anything"
"I don't need anything I don't have" you flushed a bit.
"Finish eating, we have a lot of girl things to do" Wanda reminded you.
"I'm joining, since I can be one of the girls" Loki announced and you saw Bucky almost glare at him. You finished your lasagna and heard a yip and a howl and turned in your chair to see Daisy come running at you full speed. You got out of your chair and she jumped up into your arms.
"There's my princess" you sighed holding her closely. "Did you have a good day with uncle Stevie?" Daisy continued to howl and yelp loudly while she licked your face. "I hear you've been such a good girl you get to go for a drive tonight. Yes you do!" you kissed her between the ears. "Mommy loves you so much" you held her for a few more minutes before putting her down. She sat at your feet and stared up at you adoringly. You took a piece of garlic bread and fed it to her. "Thank you Helpful, you really took good care of my girl" you smiled feeling relieved.
"Come on, I'll show you some of my art work" he offered standing up. You put your plate away and followed him obediently.

You were surprised at the amount of canvas' on the wall, and all the art work Steve had up. You saw a painting he was working on of Daisy and you gasped.
"Oh my word" you looked at it. "It's so realistic" you studied it. "You really caught her spirit in this one"
"Thank you, I worked on it yesterday and today so far" he flushed.
"Its beautiful" you smiled at him. "I love your work" you looked around the room.
"I'll have to show you the finished product" he promised.
"I'd love that, thank you" you started to head to the door.
"Y/N?" he stopped you.
"What's wrong?" you looked at him curiously.
"He's not going to hurt you like those other guys, just give him a chance" he whispered.
"I am" you blushed. "He's insistent, endearing, charming, handsome, and completely out of my league"
"Not out of your league" he shook his head. "He doesn't go out of his way for anyone"
"Except you" you reminded him.
"He's like my brother" Steve grinned.
"I've read the file, I can see it" you nodded.
"What were you planning to do tonight?" he looked at you curiously.
"Swimming outside, its warm out and seemed like the perfect opportunity to read a bit and enjoy the sunset after" you admitted.
"The girls just want to get to know you, we want to get to know you as a team" he smiled softly. "You have this wall up almost, its hard to get past"
"It's the way I was raised, I've been working on it" you admitted. "Its hard, Fury always wanted me to be more like him. And I never was, I still wanted to see the good in people. I somehow got a little jaded, and maybe a little lonely until I met my Daisy. I see how great this team is together, and the family dynamic is so different than what I was raised to see since I was eight. I want to open up, I just don't know how"
"You're doing a good job of it already" Steve grinned and ruffled your hair. "You just told me something personal"
"I told Bucky personal things" you scrunched your nose.
"That's even better than" he followed you out.
"Don't forget to bring treats for while you're at the VA. She will give lots of love for treats" you smiled at him.
"She wasn't that loveable last night, she was in full protect mode" he grinned. "It was good to see"
"I didn't know she had a protective streak in her until Maria tried to wake me up from a nightmare once. She tried to bite her when she got too close" you looked a little sad admitting it. "She's the only person that's ever tried to help me with the nightmares besides Daisy. I woke up when Maria yelled at her for it"
"Do you get nightmares often?" Steve whispered as you got to your room and grabbed the treats to hand to him.
"I don't remember not having them" you admitted. "Daisy always wakes me up. She lays in my back when I am falling asleep, its comforting enough to fall asleep to, but not enough to keep the nightmares at bay" you whispered feeling ashamed. "If I have another nightmare, its best to just let me scream it out"
"That's not going to work here" Steve shook his head. "We will risk the dog bite"
"I'd rather you didn't" you flushed. "It would give Tony a reason to put the no animal rule back in place. Bucky needs Alpine, and I need Daisy. And Loki needs his kitty"
"About that..." Steve drifted off.
"Hmm?" you looked up at him expectantly.
"Nothing" Steve shook his head. "I better get going" he hurried away. You wondered if Tony was already going to go back on his deal now that you were here. You didn't want to think about it, but it would be a one way trip back to Shield if he did. If they wouldn't have you, you would just have to find something else.
