OUT OF THAT PIT

OUT OF THAT PIT by Osagiede Osayi Mabel.

Many a time, one is thrown into a pit.
Many a time, hyenic laughs eject; knocks you cold.
Many a time, one is degraded to nothing.
Many a time, there is...
Regret, rejection
Pain, depression
Hope, but then destruction.

Many a time, I ask why?
Why change you?
What? What will you change to?
Who? Who will you change to?
Beware, everyone is taken. So what is left?

Be you! You are yet to be taken.
You are who you are.
Your beauty was planned before you knew it.
Your smile is you. Why hide it?

Not that there won't be something to change.
Remember that change is a flowing river.
When it comes by, touch it.
We all need change, the positive kind.
Many a time, you may be criticized
But never you allow yourself be degraded.
You are not the faeces of any animal.
You are not the mixture of anything sour.
When drawn into that pit,
When pulled into that darkness,
When pulled into that silence,
Remember this, your new weapon.
You are you— unique,
You are you— special,
You are you— beautiful,
You are you— handsome,
You are you— and that's confident,
You need a bucketful of it,
And that is self-esteem.
You are significant, the light of your world.

This poem is dedicated to anyone who faces inferiority complex, bully or peer pressure. Please, never change you. You are unique and special.
