Unforeseen Consequences (Complete)

Chapter Five

Thursdays are my shortest school days. I have Intro to Archeology at 3:30 and that's it, which so far is my favorite class. The professor is great. He has a PhD in Archeology, has traveled all over the world working different digs, but he’s not stuffy and boring like I had expected. As class nears to an end I start getting excited about my birthday surprise. 

“Don’t forget there will be a quiz at the beginning of Monday's class.” Professor Sabah announced. “Have a good weekend.”

And with that the class as one starts to gather up our things and head out of the room. I am excited and a bit nervous about what Alex has planned for the rest of the day. I am so distracted I nearly get run over by a motorcycle when I cross the street to my dorms. As I open the door I am stopped by a scream and arms wrapping around me. Taken by surprise I cry and spin around ready to swing. 

"Damn bitch, is that how you greet your best friend after so long?" Cassie teases.

My eyes go wide and I can't believe what I'm seeing. First Alex now Cassie! I hug her and apologize. 

“First off you can’t just attack someone like that and second of all what are you doing here?!” I shout at her. 

“It’s your birthday! You don’t think I’d miss my bestie’s birthday just because a few thousand miles separate us.” 

I laugh at her craziness. 

“You really didn’t know I was coming? Damn that man of yours really can keep a secret.” She teases. 

So this is the surprise Alex mentioned. I shake my head and open the door so we can go up to my dorm. 

“I think this room is bigger than the dorm I had freshman year. So glad I moved into the sorority house.” Cassie goes on as she explores my room. As I finish putting my things away from class Reign and Sadie walk in. They say hello as they move around putting their books away. 

“Oh, I almost forgot Alex invited you two to join us for my birthday dinner tonight. I hope you can come!” I happily announce to them. 

“That sounds great. Where are you going?” Reign asks.

“I’d love to. Just tell me when and where!” Sadie cheers.

Cassie hops up off Sadie’s bed and grabs my arm. 

“Are you ready? I have a surprise and if we don’t want to be late for dinner we should get going.” She is excited. 

“Ok I’m ready. I will see you two at dinner. We can meet here and get ready. Hopefully I’ll know by then where we are going.” 

As we walk out the room Cassie pulls me in the direction of the bathrooms. 

“I need to pee before we go.” 

I sigh and let her go. I text Alex while I wait. 

So I almost died twice today…no thanks to you -S

What?! Are you ok? -A.H. 

First I almost got run over because I was excited and distracted by your surprise. And then your surprise almost gave me a heart attack when she jumped me outside my dorm -S

She’s your best friend. Subtle isn’t her style. -A.H.

Well we are heading out, Cassie has some plans for us. Then we will see you at the dorms for dinner. Where are we going? -S

Depends on what the birthday girl wants to eat -A.H.

I put my phone away as Cassie comes out and we head to the elevator. 

“Oh my God, did you see that gorgeous specimen that just walked into the bathroom? And you should have warned me they were co-ed before going in there.” 

I laugh at her. I can only imagine her face when she unexpectedly saw a guy in there. 

“And no, I didn't see anyone. I was texting Alex.”

“And how is my favorite high school teacher doing?” 

“He is doing great…or at least he was last night.” 

I try to make it subtle but I have been dying to tell her. I just don’t know how to go about it. She doesn’t really react. 

“Did you know what he got me for my birthday?” I ask her. 

She looks at me unsure. 

“He gave me a key to his apartment…his BERKELEY apartment!”

“Oh thank God, you know. I thought I might have to keep my mouth shut.” 

We are walking down the sidewalk and I’m starting to wonder where we are going. 

“As amazing as that gift was, it was second to the other part.” I hint some more. 

“And what was that?” 

“Well…he gave it to me last night…” This doesn’t feel right coming from me. 

“Ok…”

“Damn it Cassie you know what I’m trying to say. We finally had sex!” I practically shout at her. 

She almost doubles over in laughter. 

“I caught it right away. I just wanted to hear you say it.” She says in between fits of laughter. 

“I hate you!”

“No you don't, you love me.”

I start walking, like I know where I’m going. Cassie stops laughing and runs to catch up with me.

“Ok, I’m sorry. I can’t wait to hear more about it but please not too many details, but we are here.” She smiles.

I look up at the building in front of us and I can’t stop from getting excited. It’s a tattoo parlor!

“Happy Birthday! Whatever you want, it’s on me!” 

I jump up and down in excitement and hug her. She opens the door and ushers me inside. 

“Welcome ladies, can I help you?”

“Do you have an opening?” Cassie asks. 

“Well I have an appointment in ten minutes but Jess can take you now.” The guy at the counter says.

“Perfect.” 

A young woman, probably late twenties comes out of the backroom and greets us. 

“I’m Jess, so who’s getting the work done?” 

I raise my hand and she shows us over to her station. Cassie sits back looking at a magazine while I talk to Jess about what I want done. I am waiting for her to finish sketching when Cassie hurries over to me.

“That’s the guy from your dorm! Why doesn’t it surprise me that he is here too.” 

I look over to the guy that just came in a minute ago. I can’t deny Cassie was right, he is attractive. He is dressed in all black. His black hair is messy but like it’s meant to be that way. Our eyes follow him over to another station with the guy that greeted us when we walked in. I can see he has tattoos all the way up both arms and all the way down to his fingers. As he pulls his shirt off we see his back and sides are also covered. My mind instantly wonders if he has any space left for more. 

“Ok, are you ready?” Jess makes me jump.

“Yes.” 

As she gets things going I glance over at the guy and find him looking at me. He turns away and talks to the guy next to him. I sit back and try to focus on something to get my mind off the inevitable pain. After about two hours of being permanently inked Cassie and I head back to the dorms to get ready for dinner. I look at it in the mirror and I love it!
