I held up the picture of firehouse 51 against the building I was next to and frowned when I realised I was here
I wanted to be here, don't get me wrong but I was nervous as heck
It was my first day on shift and only second day in the state
My legs slowly transported me into the firehouse and I immediately saw 2 people sitting on a table
"Hello?" I looked up from my paper to them
"Hi" I cringed at my words hi? Really?
"Can we help you?"
I frown knowing they didn't see the paramedic uniform I'm wearing but I quickly cover my expression
"I'm looking for chief Boden. Do you know where he is?"
"Yeah just go through them doors and take a left. If you walk down you will come across it in a short while" I nod trying to remember the directions
"Thank you- for helping"
"No problem. I'm Capp, this is mills" I lift my hand up to give them a small wave
"Kayla, it's nice to meet you"
"You too" I walk in through the doors and my eyes go to the firemen and women in the common room but because they all had their back turned I quickly rushed in the direction of chiefs office without them knowing
I knocked on the door and waited for chief to give me permission to enter
"Come in" I placed my hand on the handle and pushed it down, opening the door and stepping inside his office
"Kayla wood. Nice to meet you in person I'm chief boden"
"It's nice to meet you too sir" I said dragging my nails on the palms at either side of me
"So I'm guessing Brett still doesn't know your here?" I furrow my eyebrows in defeat
I thought I was better at hiding it
"Y-Yeah, but I'll tell her today, cause you know we're gonna be working together" my fists clench and unclech in spite of having to tell brett
Would she want me here? Would she want me to leave?
"Come on, I'll introduce you to the team, brett included. Kill 2 birds with one stone" he says leaving no room for an argument after noticing my nerves. I mutter a 'thank you' and trail behind him as he leaves the office and walks in the direction of the common room. We stop at the door and I freeze up not looking to go any further
"You will be fine, they will love you here" chief says trying to comfort me. He walks forward opening the door and the attention turns to us
"51. This is our new paramedic-"
"Kayla" I hear Sylvie mutter cutting him off. The people in the room look between us confused as Sylvia slowly walks forward
"You're here?" She whispers getting closer
"Yeah" once she's in arms reach she rushes forward and pulls me into a hug
