One week later...
Night Raid's Hideout

The past week had been... interesting for Night Raid, to say the least. On the plus side, they had gained a new member... a member that apparently wasn't a big fan of theirs. As one can imagine, it made this new partnership... complicated.

Obviously they didn't trust Byrnes completely, but most of Night Raid, such as Leone, Bulat, and Sheele, and so on, seemed to trust him up to a point, given that both they and he mutually benefitted from him joining the Revolution. Other members, however, such as Akame and Mine were always seen keeping an eye on him... well, nowadays it was just Mine and Akame, but that's a story for later.

Such was the case now, as Mine was just staring at Byrnes whilst he tinkered with his crossbow. He knew that she was watching him, however he paid no mind to it.

Leone then took a seat next to Mine.

"Watcha doin'?" Leone said with a grin.

Mine simply grumbled in response. Leone then followed Mine's line of sight and saw what she was staring at.

"Oh, is somebody eying Corvo? Not sure what there is to look at, but hey! Maybe the mystery helps with the fantasy." Leone said coyly.

"How can you just trust him like that?" Mine asked.

"You're seriously still on about that? He's made it clear that he hates the Empire. And besides, we mutually benefit from working together." Leone said.

"To counter him hating the Empire, he's also made it clear that he also hates us. And he benefits because we have a spy network that can help him find whoever it is he's looking for. But what's stopping the Empire from just giving him who he's looking for to save their own asses and get him to sell us out? Not to mention... he's a bit of a whack job." Mine countered.

"Two out of three of those are decent arguments. But I'm not sure where the nut job thing came from." Leone replied.

"Leone... you and I both walked in on him talking to a bunch of rats the other day. And not even like you would to a pet. It was more like creepy whispering." Mine said.

"Oh yeah. I forgot about that. So he's a bit odd. We aren't exactly normal either. Lubbock needs to stop spying on me when I'm bathing, we both know that Najenda's jokes aren't the best, Sheele isn't the brightest, and Akame is... well, Akame." Leone replied.

Mine didn't say anything in response. Mostly because she knew that Leone was right. Nobody in Night Raid could be considered normal. But that didn't make her feel any better about Byrnes.

"I still don't trust him." Mine said.

"Then at least one of you knows how to use their head." Byrnes said suddenly.

Leone and Mine were surprised by the fact that he butted into the conversation out of nowhere.

"Were you listening to us the whole time?!" Mine asked in surprise.

"The door is open and the two of you are speaking openly... I guess I stand corrected." Byrnes replied.

Before Mine could say anything, Byrnes collapsed his crossbow and walked out of the room. As he did, he looked at Mine, his lenses spinning... which kind of intimidated Mine, though she didn't let it show... at least, she tried to.

A few hours later...
The Capital

Byrnes wandered the streets of the city, his hood over his head, covering his face.

Though he has only been with Night Raid for a week, the only time he ever felt alone was in the streets of The Capital.

Whilst walking, he came across a poor man on the street begging for money. As he passed the man, Byrnes tossed the man a bag of money that he had swiped off of Lubbock.
