"ARE YOU READY?"
"Yes."
"Are you ready?"
"Yes."
"Are you ready?"
"Yes."
They moved around me but everything was a watery blur.
"Are you sure you want to do this?"
"I am."
"It's alright to back out if you have doubts," A pause. "Once this is done, it's irreversible."
This time, I paused before muttering, "I understand."
Then, they finally asked one last time, "Are you ready to proceed?"
"Yes."
The smile they shared with me was sad and pitiful. I didn't want it. But I couldn't feel anything. I stared at the ceiling, watching the world blur until I became numb.
I was just numb...
