"No"

I cannot believe what I'm hearing right now as I sat here listening to what our Alpha was saying. "You know very well that I'm human, Alpha. This pack is my home but you know very well that I don't belong here. I don't belong in your ceremonies. Your traditions doesn't apply to me." I continued as I cannot believe that in this year there's no exception. I am forced to do something barbaric for a human like me to participate.

"The King ordered every unmated members of the pack in the right of age must attend. And you also know what that means Abrielle." He state while staring as me. Stern as ever but with the soft gaze. "As much as I want you to stay. You need to participate in the Mating Ceremony." He sighed.

"What if I'll get bitten? What if I'll get taken Alpha?"

I know it was stupid of me to assume that someone will choose me or want me, a human, a weakling to be exact, when there's a hundred shewolves out there. Hell, even an Omega male wolf won't even mate in the runt or the weakest of the pack. So I understand why Alpha Bryans looks at me like I have grown a second head somewhere.

"The majority participants this year are warriors and alphas from another pack. And other pack members of Betas, Omegas and ...." he trailed as he stared at me as if contemplating if he'll continue the words he wants to say. "Runts and defects as other wolves called it."

"I cannot believe you just said that." I murmur. "And now what? A human"

"Abrielle." He sighed as he stare outside the window watching other pack members doing their jobs and pups playing. "The mating ceremony is a tradition that most unmated wolves treasures and look forward to. Some are just there to partipate and get over it with, some are forced and some are giddy and excited to find their mate or get chosen. Whatever the reasons they have, the Mating Ceremony is sacred for us wolves. And you know it very well since you've been one of the audiences before."

There's a tiredness in Alpha Bryans eyes that I never saw before. And I realized how against he is to the King's decree forcing all unmated wolves to participate, leaving them no choice to argue, stripping them of their rights to postpone this Ceremony and wait for themselves to be ready for the Mated life. Just like me, I know other wolves is not happy with this.

"You're like a daughter to me Abrielle so I'm telling you this." He said as he walked closer to me holding my hands as pure determination reflect in his eyes. "The northern pack doesn't participate in the Ceremony. It's been a decade since they last participated."

I hitched my breath as I saw sadness in his eyes. "They'll participate now? After 10 years?"

He nodded. "The northern pack are pure Alphas even their omegas are trained warriors. The females are almost alphas and warrior too. For decades they closed their border and have their own mating ceremony encouraging them to find their mates on their own lands." He states as he stood upright and glance to the surroundings again.

"They informed the King that they'll join the annual ceremony now. Their population is more Alpha male than omega male and females. And you know that an Alpha pack is a powerful pack but a pack is cannot considered a pack if there's no Betas and Omegas in it." He informed me, looking as if he was at a lost too. "When I got the news, I considered withdrawing the Ceremony this year but I also thought about our unmated members so I pushed through it willing to participate. But then the King decreed this, " he paused "This year all unmated members are ordered to participate. The King said members Abrielle, and that includes you."

"I can't Alpha." I pleaded. "If it's just the three kingdoms I might considered it but with the Northerns." I took a deep breath as dread washed over me, "You know I could die out there."
