CHAPTER 17

SONG: CRACKLIN' ROSIE BY NEIL DIAMOND

Harriet woke up the next day after spending the day before with a terrible hangover, not leaving the house, just watching movies cuddled up with Rosie. However, for some reason Harriet felt worse when she woke up this morning, feeling older already. Today was her birthday. She was turning 27, another year gone. However she didn't feel so bad about this year, she did something that meant something to her, she joined a new adventure. She did something good with her life this year, so she was prepared to grin and bear all the celebration today.

She walked downstairs to Benjamin and the kids already awake, cheering and clapping as Harriet came down, setting off party poppers and blowing party horns. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY HATTIE!!!" All three of them cheered as she sat down on the sofa Rosie running up to her with the presents.

"Open mine first!" Rosie squealed with excitement handing her a gift, as Hattie teared it open. It was two gold necklaces with the names Dylan and Rosie.

"Thank you darling. I love it." Harriet bought Rosie into a hug kissing her all over her face. "And I love you." Harriet bought her into another hug.

"Okay mine next." Dylan jumped with anticipation on his spot handing Harriet the thinly wrapped present. Harriet teared it open to see a drawing, however it wasn't like his usual drawings, not dark, not drawn with a black sharpie, but a light pencil drawing, gone over with a black fine-liner, of the group photo everyone took after the tour on their first day. Harriet stared at it and took all the details in. Benjamin was stood behind her with his chin resting onto of her head. Harriet resting her chin on Dylan's head. Rosie was at the front in the middle of the group doing jazz hands excitedly. Kelly was next to Harriet laughing at Rosie. Then all the others were either next to Kelly or behind Harriet stood next to Benjamin.

Dylan included something else by himself, he included his mum, stood on the other side of Benjamin. Harriet and Benjamin's mum stood next to Katherine (Dylan's mum) and Duncan. Then Harriet and Benjamin's dad was stood next to Harriet, and Dylan had drawn him as holding her hand. Katherine and Harriet's dad stood out from the photo as they were drawn with angel wings on their back. The picture bought tears to Harriet's eyes.

"I love it sweetheart." she bought Dylan into a hug. "I'm gonna frame that." she chuckled slightly wiping away her tears as Dylan squeezed her tighter into the hug. "Right okay Benjamin yours next." Harriet fanned her face as she took and ripped the present open from Benjamin. Harriet laughed as she took the present out along with the other. It was a personalised star of fame, with the text saying, 'we wouldn't have had this adventure without our hero.'

"Thank you it's brilliant. Right birthday breakfast." She pulled away from the hug as Benjamin went into the kitchen begging to cook the pancakes. The family enjoyed Harriet's birthday pancakes and seeing as it was a warm day and sunny outside Benjamin suggested that they should have a barbecue. Everyone went to get changed into suitable clothing for the warm weather. Benjamin yelled up the stairs to Harriet that they were going to wait for her in the jaguar where they were having the barbecue. Harriet rushed to the Jaguar after getting changed. "Benjamin did you take all the food or did you need me t- AGHH!" Harriet jumped as she entered the Jaguar everyone jumped up from behind the furniture, and by everyone it was everyone, shouting 'surprise!'"

"Did you do this?" Harriet caught her breathe as Kelly approached her.

"Course I did you deserve it." Kelly laughed at Harriet still looking shocked. "Happy birthday Harriet." Kelly bought her into a hug squeezing her tightly. "Now time for my present." Kelly rushed to grab a present left on the bar giving it to Harriet.

"You know you didn't have to do this."

"Just shut up and open it Hattie." Kelly sighed in desperation wanting to see her reaction to the present. Harriet once again ripped open the present to a framed photo of a map of constellations. "It's a map of the constellations from your first night here." Kelly smiled pointing to her writing at the bottom. 'From when we started our adventure xx'

"Awww Kelly I love it thank you." Harriet hugged her once again but holding onto her for longer not wanting to let go. "I should put this somewhere safe." Harriet smiles putting the wrapping paper back round it and placing it on top of a shelf, slightly higher than her so it wouldn't get damaged. She turned round to be faced with Kelly again, both of them with wide smiles.

"Harriet I was wondering if-"

"Barbecue is ready!" Macready yelled from outside the bar. 

"Okay!" Hattie yelled back. "Sorry what were you going to say Kells?" 

"It can wait." Kellys shrugging mentally slapping herself as she followed Harriet out.
