I can't believe her. She knows what she's doing at this point

It's like she's taunting me. What was she doing sitting with that bum?

These are the thoughts running through my head as I drive back to my house

As I sit at the red light, I see three big guys running away from an alley

They just looked like they were up to no good. Usually, I mind my business, but something told me to look

So, I pulled over and walked to the alley. I didn't want to get too close, though. What if it was a bomb or something

Still, I walked up a little further and peeked to see what they were running from

getting dark outside, so I need to get a little closer to see properly

As I get closer, it becomes more apparent that there's a body lying on the floor

I immediately pulled out my phone to call the cops and get on my knees to check their pulse

Then, I stopped.

It's her. It's Ruby. Her face was so swollen that I barely recognized her

Those fuckers jumped her! I checked her pulse. It was faint, but it was there

I quickly picked her up and lut her in the car. She needs medical attention

As I speed down the street, I rake my brain to find out who could possibly do something like this

I look back to check on her. Even with a swollen face, she is still so beautiful

We reached the hospital, and I rushed her inside. As I demand to get a room for her, they ask who I am to her

I look down at her unconscious face , look back up at the nurse, and say her boyfriend

I don't know why I said that, but I was in the heat of the moment

And I knew if I didn't say I was her partner or family member, they wouldn't let me stay with her

The nurse quickly guided us to a room and called more nurses and doctors

The room was filled with people trying to save my girl, and my mind was racing

A nurse told me she needed to go into surgery, so I needed to leave

As I sit in the waiting room, I begin to worry. She's been in there for hours

I also worry about how alone she is. She definitely needs some support

I call Princetons front office and ask for her parents' number, but apparently, she doesn't have any filed

I resort to her roommate and ask for her roommates name and number

Lily Jones is her roommate. I called the number and told her to come to the hospital for Ruby

She's there in less than 20 minutes, and she has a grin on her face to greet me

This was the same girl who had 'business' to take care of

She looks different. Like she got dressed up to come here

I tell her how long she's been in there and explain how I found her

As I spoke to her, I realized she had no reaction to anything I was saying

You'd expect a friend to have some type of reaction to bad news. Especially this news

When I finished, she sat down and stayed quiet. I decided to leave her alone

"I'm going to go make a call," I told her before leaving

As I look down at my contact list, I see L. He's a reminder of my past who has a...dangerous business

I'm reluctant to call him for help, but ultimately, I realize Ruby is more important

So I pressed the call button and waited. The rings feel longer than usual

After about 3 rings, I was sure he wasn't going to pick up....then he did

"Hello?" He said. I haven't heard his voice in a long time

"Hey, listen, I know we haven't talked in a while, but we'll catch up later."

"I need your help."

..."I want someone dead."
