Chapter 18

"Akira." I heard it almost in my dreams but as I realized where I was and what was going on I gasped as I woke.

I had shot open eyes meeting right with Levi as I came to. I had a tight grip on his waist and I felt his hand on my thigh shaking me lightly as he was looking at me.

"I'm awake." I said urgently realizing that the sun was practically up.

"Relax, we're just getting close." He said taking his hand off my leg and turning back towards the tower that was just materializing ahead.

I rubbed my eyes and could see the castle had been demolished. Titans were surrounding it and I could only imagine what had been made of those inside the building. My hand tightened around Levi's waist as I saw the group of my friends surrounded by Titans.

"What do you see?" He asked me.

"Can you not see?" I asked him because surely he wasn't that blind.

"I can see just fine, what do you see?" He asked me and I looked again and I just saw Titans fighting over the rubble. I sat up a little when I saw people standing amongst it but how they weren't getting devoured. Levi was testing me to see what I could pick up on.

"Why aren't they being eaten?" I asked leaning forward against his back to try and get a better look.

It soon became clear what was happening but it almost confused me more. The Titans were preoccupied with seemingly each other. My friends however all seemed to focus on one with a larger head which seemed to be fighting Titans themselves.

"That Titan with a big head, it's attacking the others." I asked and I turned to him. His face was inches from mine. "You don't think...?"

"Anything is possible Akira, who knows." He said shaking his head.

"I feel like this just gets more and more complicated every time I blink." I said rubbing my eyes as we definitely sped up to get there quicker.

"Believe me, things have never been this complicated, difficult sure, but whatever this is... I really don't know." He said with a sigh. "Are you rested?"

"Very much, thank you for that." I said knowing he could have easily left it alone and let me tough it out.

"I could tell you needed it, get your gear ready I don't know what we're going to be rolling into." He said and I made sure my gear was ready to go.

"That Titan is going to eat Krista!" Mikasa yelled riding further up in the formation than we had.

"Take over the horse, I'm going in." He said starting to get up, but I kept my arm tight around his waist.

"Not with your knee, let me." I said and I got up not waiting for his approval.

I stood for just a moment on the horse and before he could protest I shot off my ODM gear into the Titan and pulled myself in. I could see several others standing off to the side together except Krista who was by herself. A Titan stood over here ready to attack whilst the other weird-looking one was preoccupied. I sliced my sword across the Titan's neck before it could even react.

I jumped off its back knowing it was going to collapse and I landed on a large piece of rubble and landed firmly on my feet. I stood and looked back towards the others and they all looked at me clearly shocked to see me. Krista especially looked white as a ghost, but frankly, I'd look like that if I was helpless staring back at a Titan.

"Krista! All of you get back." Mikasa said now near me and off her horse. "Let us take care of us this."

There were probably 3 or 4 dozen Titans still in the area. I saw Hange's squad shoot into action and Levi was soon near me. I didn't waste any time as I shot off towards a cluster of three Titans. I used what was left of the castle and I used it to get a height advantage. I sliced open the neck of another Titan and I stayed in the air trying to find a good window to take out one of the others without leaving myself open.
