painting of hephaestus and aphrodite

'where have you been?' hephaestus questions his partner. 'tis none of your concern.' aphrodite responds bitterly. hephaestus cracks his knuckles in anger, he had every right to know where they were, they were his partner. he quickly decided against arguing with aphrodite. 'i will be back in the next few day, olympus has called for my duty.' aphrodite simply nods their head, laying on their bed and closing the drape that hung over it. hephaestus let out a quiet i love you before leaving. their marriage will work out, aphrodite just needs time. he repeats this to himself in hopes of keeping the spark of hope alive in him. aphrodite wakes a while later, walking out of their room and down the many stairs, through the many halls to ares's room. ares smiles at aphrodite, pulling them in for a kiss. the two continued to make love in secret, careful as to not be seen by helios the sun god. passionate with ares, apathetic with hephaestus.
