Gerard had been watching the kid across the lake. He was pretty sure the kid was drawing him from the way he would look up every few minutes and hunch in closer to his sketchbook (didn't he know anything about posture?), so Gerard decided to draw him right back, blending the graphite with his fingers. The tiny, penciled version of the boy sat in front of the gray, shaded version of the school, bent over his sketchbook in concentration. Gerard thought it was kind of funny that they had chosen to draw each other, so standing up, he began to walk the perimeter of the lake toward the kid. As he got closer, he could see more details in his face, the way his hair fell a little over his eyes, or how his black Converse had holes in them. He'd add those details later.
He approached the boy, who looked a little nervous.
