Chapter 7.
Percy
Percy couldn't believe it. She came to him, just like he hoped she would, and they slept together (multiple times, thank you), she spent the night, and now she's snuggling into him. If he didn't know any better, he'd say things worked out for the best.
Watching her sleep brought him this sense of calm. He had her back, he fixed it. He doesn't know exactly how he did it, but he swears Aphrodite must be looking out for him.
Quietly, he slipped out from the blanket he wrapped them in after she fell asleep, pulled on his pants, and went to the kitchen to make her breakfast.
"So, you had a guest." Piper was sitting in the dark kitchen, holding a cup of coffee, and a look he couldn't quite get a read on.
"Shit."
"How'd you do it?"
"We did missionary for most of it," he began until a piece of bagel he didn't know she had hit him in the face.
"Not that, you perv, I mean how did you get her to come over?"
"She just kind of showed up. Now can I please have the room for the morning? I'll leave you and Jason some eggs, please, I don't want anything that could go wrong today, please."
"There better be vegetarian bacon with those eggs." Percy began making coffee.
"You got it." Piper slipped back into her bedroom just in time for Annabeth to pop her head up.
"Good morning, Wise Girl." Percy smiled brightly at her.
"Hi."
"Did you sleep well?" He sat next to her, and handed her a cup of freshly brewed coffee, and waited giddily for her to wake up fully.
"I did," she smiled forcefully, and rubbed her eyes.
"Don't worry, you can sleep in the car."
"Where are we going?"
"We leave for Montauk today."
"Right.." she paused, thinking, strategizing how she wanted to proceed. "Maybe, maybe we should spend the morning discussing last night, because I just—"
"Well, we're back together, aren't we? That's what that was, things ended with Ryder and you came over and we- we made up!"
"I- I don't want to get back together with you." She winced, turning away from him.
"What?" His heart sank.
"The sex was great, don't get me wrong, but, you cheated on me, Percy."
"Where does that leave us then?"
"I honestly think we should forget about last night. I was vulnerable because of what happened with Ryder, and it's probably just for the best."
"No, no, Annabeth, what's for the best is you kissing me right now, and letting me escape with you to Montauk."
"Please, don't be ridiculous. Don't make last night out to be more than it was; a hookup, we don't need to make a big deal out of nothing."
"So last night meant nothing?" His voice caught in the back of his throat.
It wasn't adding up. If she didn't want to get back together with him, why did she sleep with him?
