I was sitting in the couch with Annie in my lap. I was making funny faces at her and getting her to laugh. My phone buzzed and I saw a text from Toretto.

Layla's Texts

Toretto❤️- Hey. I'll come pick you up at 6. K?

Me- Yup. Can't wait!

Toretto❤️- Me either!

Me- Also. My dad wants to give u the old dad talk before we leave. 😂

Toretto❤️- Should I be scared?

Me- He'll probably say the usual, "Have her home by this time"

Toretto❤️- Ok. As long as ur dad likes me!

Me- Either way, he's not in charge of me anymore. I'm an adult and I can go out with whoever I want.

Toretto❤️- K. Gotta go! Setting up our date with Frostee and Cisco!

Me- Aww. Their helping u set up the date?

Toretto❤️- Yup. Love u! See u at 6

Me- Love u!

Layla- Annie! I'm goin on a date with Toretto tonight!

Annie giggled. I laughed. I looked at the clock and it said 5:14.

Layla- I should probably go get ready.

Joey- Ready for what?

Layla- Jeez. You're so nosy!

Joey- Hey! I just wanted to know where you're goin!

Layla- Toretto's taking me out on a date.

Joey- Can I tell you something?

Layla- What?

Joey- I know you guys are dating and you love each other, but you guys seem so different! He is a goody goody and you're a criminal.

Layla- No I'm not. That's not who I am anymore!

I felt some tears run down my cheeks. Joey picked up Annie.

Joey- Why are you crying!?

Layla- I have tried so hard, to change. And I have! But there are people who think I'm still a criminal! And that makes me feel like I failed at changing.

Joey- Sorry. I didn't mean to get you upset. I was just saying that you and Tony have lived very different lives.

Layla- I know that. He knows that. He is trying to show me a life without pain and suffering every day. He is showing me a life where family is there for you and people really love you.

Joey- That sounds nice. That's exactly what I'm trying to show Annie!

Layla- I gotta go get ready.

Joey- Okay. Have fun! Just not too much fun.

I slowly walked up the stairs and went to go get ready for Toretto to come to get me. I walked into my room just to remember that was where my brother and Maria were staying. 

Maria- Hey.

Layla- Oh hey. Sorry, I kinda forgot this isn't my room right now.

Maria- Well this is your house. You paid for it.

Layla- Actually. I didn't. The agency got it for me so I didn't have to stay at the garage.

Maria- Oh. That's nice of them. Did you need to get something, or...

Layla- Toretto is taking me out on a date at 6 so I was gonna change before he got here.

Maria- Ohh I can help!

Layla- Really?

Maria- Yea! I'd love to! You're kinda like my little sister!

Layla- I always wanted a big sister! I was always stuck with my brothers.

Maria- Come on. Let's get you ready for your date!
