The very next day when Jesse woke up she knew where she needed to go. She had just finished the book last night and now she needed the next one.

So she got dressed, put her charged up batteries in, and headed downstairs where a dressed Kyler eating breakfast sat. He spoke with a mouthful of waffles and Jesse's face scrunched up in disgust.

"I don't speak pig." Jesse sneered as she started her own bowl of cereal.

Kyler swallowed his mouthful with a roll of his eyes. "I said, I'm leavin' to hang out at the beach with the boys. You comin'?"

Jesse shook her head and joined the teen at the table. "Do I want to hang out with a bunch of sweaty guys trying to pick up chicks?" She pretended to think about it intensely with a hum. "Oh boy do I not want to do that!" She gave her brother a fake smile.

"You don't have to be a bitch about it." Kyler finished his food and threw his dish in the dishwasher. "You just gonna hole up in your room like last summer?"

"Yes." Jesse said seriously, pushing her food eating. "It's my only time away from humans. Let me enjoy it."

Kyler grabbed the girl by her neck and rubbed his knuckles into his sister's hair with a smirk. "Yeah? Well you can't escape this human, you dumb bitch."

Jesse immediately tried to escape the hold with small smacks and squeaks. "Let go of me! I might catch the ugly!" After a few more seconds of struggling, her brother allowed her mercy and Jesse immediately smacked her brother in the arm. "Jerk."

"Yeah yeah, enjoy your hermit life. 'Cause when school hits, you and I gonna be around tons of nerds and I need you."

In a twisted way, Jade knew he was letting her know how much he missed her. The twins were always close and to be apart for months was hard on both of them. Jesse became more introverted and Kyler increased his bullying.

After Kyler was gone, Jesse grabbed her own keys and drove to the mall where she knew her brother would never find her. She knew she was well loved, but she was so afraid of her brother finding out about her new love for manga and comics. She didn't know what he would do.

Right before she entered the comic store, she looked behind her for anyone that might recognize her. Since she wasn't looking, she ran right into another person. They both fell to the ground in a jumbled mess.

"S-shit, I'm so sorry!" Jesse suttered out looking down with wide eyes at the boy below her. "I-I wasn't paying attention and well, uh-." Immediately the girl tried to get off of the boy but her necklace was caught on one of his flannel buttons and the shock pulled her back down. "I'm so sorry!"

Demetri's face was equally shocked and eyes perhaps even wider as the girl in front of him tried to shakily get the necklace from the button. The pain from the fall was forgotten as the embarrassing situation seemed to keep getting worse.

"Why don't we just take your necklace off and get up?" Demetri suggested, proud of himself for not stuttering. "That way we're not on the dirty ground for any longer?"

Jesse's face went even redder as she realized how stupid she was for not trying that first. "R-right!" She took off her necklace and got up carefully. Another fall and she might actually move to Oregon forever.

Once Demetri was up, he took the time to inspect the necklace and button before carefully unraveling the knot. "U-uh, here." The teen basically shoved the necklace to the girl, who took it equally as jerky.

"Thank you." Jesse sighed and out the necklace back on. "I'm really sorry about that."

"Hey, it's okay." The lanky boy shrugged, trying to seem nonchalant. "I'm more surprised that you were able to push me over."
