You didn't have much of an eventful day, but that never meant anything. You could always find something to do after dark, at the night market. What you sold there wasn't anything special, only potions, but they were good potions. It was kind of like baking to you, except you probably weren't that good at baking.
"Hey, (Y/N)!" A familiar voice called out to you. There it was. You were waiting to see him, that was your friend Marcus. He hung around sometimes to help with business. "Hey, dude!" You smiled at him. "Did you see the owl lady earlier today? Wicked!" He laughed. "Yeah! She was in front of my house, I saw that Golden Guard too, crazy, man." You respond.
"Oh, jeez. That's bad luck," He nervously laughed. "I doubt it, he couldn't touch me if he wanted to," You rolled your eyes, "Cmon, we need to set up shop." You made a circle in the air and suddenly there was a medium sized tent being constructed in front of you and your friend. "I love watching you do magic, it's so cool."
"Uh huh." You smirked. Marcus had a massive crush on you, and he had told you that, but you both agreed it would be better to just stay friends, it just worked out that way. Once business started running, there was this person in a grey cloak who walked up to your shop, "Um.. I heard you sold potions?" He asked, keeping his head down. You couldn't see his face.
"Well, ingredients and ways to make them, mostly.." You lied. You never trust a person who's face you can't see, now that was bad luck. "What kind of potion do you need?" You smiled. The figure lifted his head, again, there was no face, but instead, a golden mask. Marcus backed away, he was going to go check stock or something. He was terrified of the Emperor's Coven.
"..." You stared at him for a second. He saw you earlier today. He knew where you lived. Your shop advocated for wild magic, what was gonna happen now? "I can't sell anything to you." You said in a stern voice. "Pardon me?" The Golden Guard asked. "I get it, you've never been rejected by a shopkeeper before, but I don't want your snails. For all I know, it's got tracking magic on it."
Even though you couldn't see his face, you could tell he was absolutely bewildered, "Are you stupid? I could have you arrested, you know." He clenched his fists. You weren't gonna back down, that's not what you do. Even if you were terrified and honestly might panic and cry, you were gonna stand your ground.
"Arrest me for what? I haven't done anything incriminating." "You're selling potions. That could be used for wild magic." "It's not my shop." Another lie. "We both know that's a lie. So please, just sell me what I need." He sighed, "Or I'll arrest you and your friend."
"Hey!" Marcus whined from the back, "Leave me outta this!"
'Shit,' you thought.
"Um.. Just tell me what you need and come back tomorrow." You caved. It wasn't worth dealing with the coven.
