Team Sonic, Buddy, Shadow, and Silver land on the ground after leaping out of the Central Tower following destroying the Phantom Ruby reactor. They wave to the rest of their friends.
Espio: Did you do it?
Tails: Yes. I've scanned the whole base. No other backup generators or power sources. The Phantom Ruby is officially disabled.
Sonic: We did it! Eggman's army is officially butt-kicked! We won!
They all celebrate, Sonic attempts to fist bump Buddy, but they are interrupted by a small earthquake. Buddy quickly grits his teeth and scowls as they look around for the source of the interruption.
Sonic: Oh, come on! Now what? Can't we ever just win and have that be the end of it?
They all turn and see a powered-up Infinite rising behind them, with glitchy, distorted effects around him
Infinite: *laughing maliciously* I told you you hadn't seen the last of me!
Tails: No way! We stopped the Phantom Ruby!
Infinite: That's what you thought. Before you broke into the reactor and shut it down, I managed to recharge the Ruby and significantly magnify its power!
Tails: But that means the Phantom Ruby no longer has a vulnerable energy supply. It's an invulnerable ruby?
Infinite: Correct. With this power, I- *static* WE have now become the strongest being on this planet! In this universe!
Silver: "We"?
Infinite bursts with power, cracking his mask and transforming into some much more fierce. His body is glitching and distorting the space around him, but there's something different about him. Half of his body has changed and continues to flicker in and out, but it's become clear. It's finally revealed who had been pulling the strings all along. Infinite has now merged with Mephiles the Dark.

All this time, Mephiles had still been lurking in the Sonic Universe. After his defeat in 06, although the timeline was reset, Mephiles' consciousness somehow managed to still slip through. Eggman found him in this unstable form and created a body for him to inhabit; the Time Eater. However, as a result of both past and futureSonic's destroying the Time Eater, Mephiles' consciousness was nearly destroyed and flung into a random point in time. As a last-ditch effort, Mephiles managed to contain what remained of him into a singular solid entity; the Phantom Ruby. All this time, Mephiles has been using Infinite merely as a vessel, an enforcer of sorts, to ensure his schemes all went according to plan. And now merged with Infinite, he's become Mephil-Infinite
