Steven's gem glowed a magnificent sparkling red as a slim elegant shield projected off of his gem. Although he did summon his shield, this was not the time to. The stunning glow dimmed as his eyes grew dark. His grimacing snarl hit Pearl like a ton of bricks. Pearl ran as Steven chased after her. Tears flowed down Pearl's cheeks as she passed the shattered gems of Ruby, Sapphire, and Amethyst.
"What happened?.. What did we do wrong?" Pearl shouted repeatedly in her head.
Steven planted his feet in the ground as Pearl hesitantly drew her weapon. He threw his shield straight towards Pearl. The shield passed right over her head as she fell onto her hands and knees. She dropped her spear into the sand.
"I don't want it to end like this!" Pearl screamed.
Steven, with out hesitation, bashed his shield straight into her back. Pearl fell to the ground.
Her skin glowed as she muttered one last word before she was sucked into her gem, "Why?".
Steven laughed as he slammed his foot onto gem. It too shattered.
