Hanji's POV

With the amount of free time I had as I was imprisoned in this tower, I read 5 books in that series. I read a single book over 2 days. I've been stuck in here for over 10 days or so. Maybe more since I can't remember anything before that. I'm not that good with time. But one day, the Ackerman came to me, holding out a pair of handcuffs. This... this was out of the blue.

"What is it this time? Am I meeting the goddess of the devils?"

"What did we say about that?" He growled, walking over to me. "Hold your hands out."

"I didn't think of you to be that kind of man, Levi. What are you planning to do to me?"

He stared at me with those gray eyes... familiar ones that would always haunt my soul. "Do you think of me as a guy as filthy as them?"

"Who knows? Any guy is capable of anything. Even a woman." I smirked as he clips the handcuffs onto me. Levi glared at me, and I couldn't gulp my fear down from him.

"I would never stoop to that level. Don't lump me in with them." He tugs me to my feet, "We're taking a little trip outside." Of course, it was not freedom for me.

They dragged me outside and I was stunned to see what was going on. I was kept out of their sight, but I saw my Eldians crewmates working in some sort of field. Their shirts were off as they were digging with some sort of hoe. I could see their ribs showing through and it looks like they were starved.

"What is this?" I scowled, turning to the Ackerman. "You said that they wouldn't starve."

"We have been giving everyone food and water 3 times a day." He says to me.

"Where are the Marleyans?"

"Sitting down in their cells." The Ackerman sighed, "We gave them an option to work outside. They rather have the Eldians work."

"Why did you give them the option?"

Something seemed to strike the small man about it. "Days without sunlight can have long-term effects." He grumbled. "You're claiming that the Marleyans are stealing their food?"

"I wouldn't be surprised." I sigh, "They come first before Eldians..."

"We'll separate them."

"You can't do that. They'll get suspicious."

The Ackerman glared at me again. "Do you think of us as uneducated people here?"

"To be fair, your history was incomplete. I would think you guys are uneducated."

He rolls his eyes, shaking his head. "A friend of mine wanted answers for the incomplete history. That led to someone close to him dying an accidental death."

"An accident is an accident."

"An accidental death after the friend had told to everyone about the idea that the history could be incomplete? It was no accident. We were silenced about our past- given that history and grew up with it. Someone I knew confessed to helping execute those orders. Every little story was about people trying to find the truth, and they were silenced. Here, you couldn't know the truth. What does that tell you?"

"Captain Levi," I see some sort of taller man with a stressed-out face. "You're needed."

The Ackerman sighed, "Fine."

He pulled me along to a door. He turns toward me, staring me down with his gray eyes. "Stay here. And if I find you missing, when we do find you, consider a body part missing. Do you understand what's coming out of my mouth?"

I rolled my eyes, "I hear you. I'm a prisoner for the rest of my life on this damned island." He didn't say anything as he walks into the room with the man that fetched him earlier. I began looking out the window, trying to see something to pass the hours. Then, curiosity got hold of me.

Pushing my ear against the wooden door, I heard their muffled voices. One thing's for sure was that it was about me.

"- and I don't give a damn if you're considered Humanity's Strongest Soldier, Captain Levi!" I hear someone shouting. "If you cannot get her to speak, then she'll be executed as a traitor."

I felt my blood run cold when I heard that. Then, the captain himself began to speak. Strange. "You MPs always have a knack for execution and traitors. Are you itching that badly to execute someone? Not enough criminals for you to arrest?"

I hear someone slamming their hand against the table, "Did I say anything about that?!"

The Ackerman didn't respond to that, but another meek voice. "S-Sir, it's only been 14 weeks-."

"Listen here, you brat, just because the former commander of the Survey Corps named you as the current commander does not make you older. Let the adults talk."

"I'm capable-."

"Commander Armin, listen to me- you should've let someone else take control of the Survey Corps."

"And leave it in the hands of some fat-ass Military Police person? I rather have this child lead than have someone who can't touch their toes lead us. Erwin chose him, not some fat guy too drunk on sweets and alcohol." I chuckled, hearing his sassy comments. I'm not the only one...

"We need answers. Is she on our side or will she be against us? 2 weeks should've been enough."

"The queen said for us to take as much time as we need."

"We are advising her to go quicker."

"Gaining someone's trust is not as easy as black and white." The meek voice comes back again, "As you should know, we have trouble with trust. Can't tell who is truly on our side and who is against us at this point."

The first voice that I heard brought another blood-chilling chill through my body. "One more week. If you cannot deem her either trustworthy or a traitor, we will execute her. And to put a stop to your shenanigans about avoiding execution, we will execute her on the spot. Do you understand?"

"A week is too-."

"One week. Unless you want it to be 3 days, I would shut up about it, Commander Armin. One week to figure it out."

I was escorted back upstairs to the tower and once the captain took the handcuffs off my wrists, I said something that startled him the most. "What do you need to know?"

"What are you talking about?"

"Exactly what I said. What do you want to know from me?"

"And I'm supposed to take that freely?"

"Take it as you want. I heard what they said. And I don't want to die."

"Is that the only reason why you're so open to chatting about whatever it is? So you won't die?"

"Everyone has a reason to live. I rather not die here. I'll do anything to avoid an early death, Captain. But I do have something to ask for. It's not... impossible... but save my people from the Marleyans that are imprisoned. They deserve to be well-fed and hydrated."

"That we can do."
