DEE.

I remember when Peyton and Jeremiah first started dating almost two years ago and how they immediately became a popular couple at our school.

Peyton has always been popular. She's the type of person that everybody just knows, seeing as she involves herself in a lot of activities and clubs. Her beauty is also a determining factor. Jeremiah's also a pretty popular face at Bowcreek High. He gave a good impression when at a school play he joined in freshman year, he was absolutely terrible. He clearly didn't remember any of his lines and freestyled throughout. Had everyone laughing, even the teachers. He always moves with people, seems to be friends with everybody, gets flirted at a lot (which he knows and loves).

So, when the both of them started dating, of course they became a hot topic. They were like Barbie and Ken, although Jeremiah fits more into the aesthetics of Ryan. The goofy boyfriend and the rich, elegant girlfriend.

I went through varying emotions throughout their on and off relationship. At first, it was hard to accept. Then, just as I started (trying) to accept it, they entered a rocky stage that really lasted for the entirety of the relationship.

First, it was Peyton telling me about how Jeremiah never listens to her and instead is more interested in sex. Then, it was her telling me about how he cancels dates to hang out with his friends -- in one case he left her in the middle of a date because he got a call from a friend who just got a new motorcycle. They'd broken up after that. It was their first breakup. But then they got back together before the next semester and this time, the honeymoon phase was even shorter than the last and it ended up with him abruptly breaking up with her via text message in the middle of the night and on her birthday too.

The next week, Jeremiah was dating Becky Simmons, a junior. I told Peyton to let it be, explained to her how it was good riddance and she agreed but the next month, they started dating yet again. She kept complaining about Jeremiah to me. If he was not flirting with some other girl, he was constantly ignoring her, even in front of people. I saw an instance once, when Peyton walked up to him at the school field all happy and Jeremiah dodged and ran away to his friends, who laughed.

Their relationship to me was very weird. I had no idea why Peyton stayed with him, even when it was apparent that he didn't really care for her.

I think back to what he said to me last week. That Peyton broke her own heart. And now I'm thinking what he meant by that is, she broke her own heart by expecting so much from him. Things he clearly couldn't be.

I could still remember all the times she'd come crying about him, all the nights I'd spent trying to comfort her, telling her that Jeremiah didn't deserve her. He was an asshole, he is an asshole, I'm sure of that but...

It's so confusing. The Jeremiah I've been talking to since our alien encounter almost two weeks ago is different. He's not the nonchalant douche I know him to be. But maybe that's because now's not a really good time for him, since he just lost his grandma.
