Melinda May POV

She should have known this was going to go downhill fast. Especially when Coulson decides that they should enter the building, even if the back-up Fury is sending them hasn’t arrived yet. She still doesn’t understand why Director Fury wants to add another member to their team, or she can understand it, what she can’t understand is his refusal to tell them who this agent is. Then there is the fact that Fury informs them that they are meeting this agent here, not at the BUS or any other base before coming here.

Hearing how FitzSimmons talks to one another in low voices, in a try to calm the other one, Melinda wishes she had put up more of a fight to not enter this building before back up arrived. Considering they walked right into a trap. They are now stuck in a small room, with only three able agents to fight and the people they are fighting are super soldiers. Even with the backup, Melinda isn’t sure they would be able to handle this.

“What do we do?”

Simmons asks, her voice still somewhat low. Turning her attention towards the younger agents, Melinda should have insisted that they stayed at the BUS. Or that have Ward teaching them to at least handle a gun properly so they can defend themselves if needed. Taking in a deep breath, Melinda is about to answer the biochemist when gun shots echo throughout the building.

Turning her attention towards the door, she narrows her eyes. She knows that a super solider is standing outside of the door, and if someone else is moving around in the base, it wouldn’t take long for the one outside to enter the room to finish them off. And she was right, just seconds later, the door opens, but the super soldier falls into the room. Lifting her own gun, she points it towards the second person who enters.

“Who are you?”

Melinda asks, only to feel surprised when she takes in the person in front of her. Seeing how the young woman turns her head to look at her, Melinda gets the feeling she knows who this person is. There is something oddly familiar, she just can’t put her finger on where she has seen the face before. Taking a proper look, she realises that the young woman is wearing a standard S.H.I.E.L.D mission suite with a pair of special designed gauntlets.

This was the agent Fury is sending them, it has to be. Lowering her gun once more, Melinda looks at the woman. Trying to figure out who this agent is, she starts to search the woman’s eyes. That’s when she realises something. The doe-coloured eyes don’t match the face, not the way she would have thought. She does however recognise the eyes, it’s a pair she hasn’t seen for six months. Seeing them right here and now, with a completely new face, makes her more confused.

“Y…You.”

She somehow managed to get out, not fully sure what she should be saying or doing in this very moment. Lowering her gun properly this time, Melinda wishes she could say anything else, and as she opens her mouth to try, the young woman turns and runs out of the room. With a deep breath, she decides that the best thing to do now, is to follow her.

“May! Wait!”

Coulson calls out as she heads for the door, stopping in the door opening, she turns around to look at him and the rest of the team.

“Take FitzSimmons out of here alongside white the things we came here to get. I’m going after our mysterious agent.”

She orders him, knowing fully well that he is the one that is supposed to be in charge, then again… Fury had asked her to put this team together from the start after all.

“Take Ward with you.”

Hearing this, Melinda narrows her eyes, not even putting energy on answering him that this is a bad idea.
