How Easily Passion Twists

Wilbur sighed as he watched Alex storm into the coffee shop. He didn't want for it to come to this. He really didn't want for it to come to this.

What could he do, anyway? In a couple days, the flight for his med school would leave with him on it, and separate him from Alex. Forever...

He sighed, running a hand through his hair. It would be okay- just a few more days, then he didn't have to think about Alex anymore. Didn't have to think about that brilliant smile, or those ebony round eyes, or that little head tilt that Alex did when he was confused that just was so cute-

Wilbur stopped and hit his head against the wall multiple times.

Not looking at Alex through the shop windows, he pointedly strummed a few strings, falling into a familiar rhythm. A one, he knew, he had played many times.

"Tell me again,"

Wilbur leaned against the wall.

"About how it hurts,"

Relaxed.

"Being awfully loud,"

Closed his eyes.

"For an introvert."

Let out a breath.

"Get out of my room, smile wiped clean,"

Pulled down his beanie.

"Isn't it weird, to be so mean?

And started playing.

"I'm guessing that I've grown horns
I guess I'm human no more
I can tell I've rotted in your brain"

Alex stopped talking to Niki, across the street.

"Oh, how easily passion twists
You think I'm a crazy bitch"

Wilbur chuckled.

"I craft my words to fit your head
'Cause no one listens to the dead," he sung.

"So maybe I will talk to you
The only way I know how to
Mmm, mmm, I've said my speech,
Mmm, mmm, through sharpened teeth
You break the rules and spikes grow from your skin"

He looked up.

"Please, let the devil in,"

Locked eyes.

"A meter apart
You blankly stare
We shout in our heads
Are you still in there?"

Held the gaze.

"Well this ends bad, then
We knew it would
So we won't eat our words,"

And Alex?

"'Cause they don't taste good"

His gaze was full of contempt.

"Really?" Alex hissed.

Wilbur stopped playing and held his breath. First time being face to face with Alex since that day, this wasn't how he wanted it to happen. Honestly he wasn't sure he wanted it to happen at all, part of him hoped he could just leave, never to see Alex again. But of course that would be too easy, wouldn't it?

"Alex..." he muttered.

"What happened to 'I'm not gonna come back unless you want me to', huh?" Alex crossed his arms. Wilbur desperately searched his face for any sign that maybe he was joking. But of course, he found nothing.

"I don't want you here, Soot, what don't you get about that?"

I don't want you here, Soot.

The words echoed through Wilbur's head. Had it truly come to this? To the point Alex wouldn't even refer to Wilbur by his first name?

"Alex... I-"

"Shut up. Do you understand what you put me through? I loved you! I loved you and you broke every ounce of trust in you I had!" Alex cut him off.

Wilbur hung his head, "I'm... I'm sorry... I never meant to hurt you," he mumbled.

Alex scoffed, "Oh fuck off with your 'I never meant to hurt you' bullshit. If you really cared you would have told me you had a fucking kid."

Wilbur didn't know how to respond to that, so he simply didn't.

Alex sighed, rolled his eyes, and turned around seemingly to leave.

But, after taking a few steps he stopped, causing Wilbur to pick his head up. Alex turned his head to look back at Wilbur, a cold smile on his face.

"Oh, and have fun at med school, Soot."
