The Princess and the frog originally was a Grimm tale that was actually. referred to The Frog Prince or Iron Henry or The Frog King

The Frog Prince or the Iron Henry is a German fairy tale created by the
Brother's Grimm and published in 1812 in Grimms Brother's series. Traditionally, it is the first story in their folktale collection.

In the Grimm version it was narrated that a spoiled princess reluctantly befriends the Frog Prince, whom she met after dropping a golden ball into a pond under a linden tree, and he retrieves it for her in exchange for her friendship. The Frog Prince, who is under a wicked fairy's spell, magically transforms back into a handsome prince.

Compared to this little fairy tale addition, Disney took this story and replaced it with a twist.

Firstly instead of the lead character being a spoiled princess who loses her ball in the lake. There is a girl named Tiana, who is a hardworking girl and dreams of opening her own restaurant dedicated to her father's deep aspirations.

Tiana is loosely based on two princesses which is Princess Emma, the heroine of E.D Bakers novel The Frog Princess, and the princess from the Brother's Grimm fairy tale , The Frog Prince, which inspired Baker's novel. The character also was inspired by famed New Orleans chef Leah Chase, who actually had Tiana dreams and aspirations, some say she is the real life Tiana

The Prince is also quite different to that of the novel. Prince Naveen is native to the kingdom of Maldonia, where he lives alongside his parents, the king and queen and his younger brother, Prince Ralphie.

Naveen is quite the freeloader and has spent all his life never learning to do a thing for himself, including activities as basic as cooking.

His parents were in all likelihood, too busy running the kingdom to have time with their son, as Naveen stated that his mother had servants read him stories before bed every night, implying she was never available to do so herself.

Despite this, they were aware of his spoiled behavior and by the time of adulthood, the King and Queen of Maldonia finally had enough of the prince's lazy antics and excessive partying, and disinherited him from the royal family.

Even if his parents would not change their minds, Naveen now had to find some way to become self-sufficient in order to survive and when exposed to the journey with Tiana , he changed and developed into a mature yet funny person.

It is the same character represented in The Frog Prince as the Prince in that book as well but the only one factor that changed both concepts was the the difference of Voodoo and Magic.

In the Original story, the Prince was cursed by a wicked fairy to live unloved until a princess kisses him.

While in the Disney adaption , Naveen gets his identity snatched from him by an evildoers in the dark arts whose name is Dr Falicier and his acomplice
Lawrence who was the prince's servant.

Even though both stories heavily contrasts, Disney created a very strong story with a hardworking girl Tiana and a lazy Prince Naveen and how adventure and keeping promises in reality is actually important

In the original the princess refused to marry the Prince because he was a frog and that was until she kissed him did she realise his importance in her life as a partner.

In similarity, both Tiana and Naveen went on an adventure, despite both being frogs to discover there own importance in themselves, towards others and towards each other .

So keep your promises people because sometimes you may never know when destiny favors you!
