One of Disneys most famous movies Moana never actually stray too far from the origins of the story.

This movie was based on ancient Hawaiian, Mangareven, Tahitian, Tongan, Samoan and Polynesian mythology and in particular, the figure of Maui.

The Disney's version of Moana tells the story of a brave princess who goes against the wishes of her family and sails across the Pacific ocean with a demigod to return a sacred stone to an island deity because her people are running out of food an...

The Disney's version of Moana tells the story of a brave princess who goes against the wishes of her family and sails across the Pacific ocean with a demigod to return a sacred stone to an island deity because her people are running out of food and resources on the island that they live on.

Once the stone is returned, the dangers that she faced in the ocean disappear and her people are faced with no problems and can travel the sea again to search for food.

The true story however is a bit different

The true story however is a bit different. Directors from the movie might have left little clues to indicate that the island that she and her people where living on was actually from the Southwest Pacific.

We also know from the Disney story that a pig 'Pua' and a rooster is part of her team. Both animals were brought to the islands by the first Polynesians, so at least thats a fact.

Moana Waialiki might be hiding secrets herself as she might be no princess at all. For instance, Moana Waialiki has an Hawaiian ring to it because of the 'W', which is uncommon with the rest of Polynesia. In Hawaii's case her name should mean 'Water King', but her name has and extra 'k'.

She also officially comes from the Southwest Pacific and Hawaii is in the Northen Hemisphere so something's not right there.

However Maori, a certain Polynesian language has a certain 'W' ring to it that we were looking for but that language originally comes from New Zealand and those Islands at that time didn't have human existence when Moana was supposed to be born.

Maui, however The Demigod Of wind and a Sea Shapeshifter is said to be a culture hero and an ancient chief.

In the Hawaiian myth however Maui is still very important because he plays a huge role in their origin story. For example he is important for passing the secret of fire to humans.

Maui in mythology also had four brothers and in the Disney movie lots of his violent personality traits were said to be left out. In the movie he was abandoned by his parents and raised by a god but in the myth he was born from a god and a mortal making him a demigod.

Ti fiti however does not exist in Polynesian mythology, but there is a goddess of fire, lightning, wind and volcanoes called Pele. After learning this secret, Maui visited the goddess and tricked her into giving it to him, just like how he does with Ti fiti's heart in Moana.

In conclusion Moana itself is not what it seems to be but the biggest life lesson is to be learned from this Disney movie, which is : Don't be afraid to take risks that you might think are not possible, try things that you are afraid of and act brave even when death is staring at your eyes.

Now when I mean take risks that you might think are not possible , I mean normal things like learning how to swim when you don't or learn self defense if you are afraid of getting robbed. So please don't do stupid things like climb buildings and take selfies, then you are seriously asking for PTSD or maybe a broken arm or leg.

Stay safe, love Thalia Grace
