Very unfortunately the true beauty and the beast story did not include a curse and the beast was not a prince. Then how this tale come around?.
THE TRUE STORY:
The true beast was a man named Petrus Gonsalvus, who suffered from a genetic condition known as hypertrichosis also known as Ambras syndrome, which is defined by an abnormal amount of hair growth on any part of the body. In his case it affected his entire body.
Petrus and his Belle, in real life's name Catherine, who was the daughter of the royal court servant. They both met for the first time at their own wedding. The beast was not a prince, but he did have connections to French royalty, at a young age he was captured and put into a iron cage and was given to king Henry II of France as a gift for his coronation.
The king however did not treat him as a beast as he recognized his calm demeanor and decided to do an experiment. As an experiment, he educated and transformed Gonsalvus into a Gentleman. The king allowed him to keep his birth name.
Petrus and Catherine were married for more than 40 years, with Catherine passing at 1623 and Petrus several years earlier. There was no record of his death, possibly because he was not considered a human worthy of a burial. He was last mentioned at the Christening of his grandson in 1617 and an estimated guess of his death at 1618. The couple had seven children and 4 of the children, who were affected by the syndrome were sold to the upper class people as pets.
This story spread throughout the region, eventually becoming an inspiration to one of the most popular love stories in history. Unfortunately in the real story our beauty and beast died and a few of their own children got sold as pets who were exploited.
