yesterday you hugged me.
it was the type of embrace that was unexpected;
the type that comes from sheer emotion.
yesterday you hugged me
and i felt tears begin to well in my eyes.
not because i haven't gotten a hug before,
but because i've never felt a hug quite like yours.
i breathed in your saccharine scent,
and it consumed me,
filling my lungs with only you.
you pulled me closer
and moved your hands down my back
when i realized it was more than a simple hug.
it was a bandage for us both,
temporarily letting us get a taste
of what we know we cannot have.
