A New Rose

Scene 9

Next morning Rose gets up and leaves Dahlia asleep in her bed, she gets dress and goes to the kitchen
Summer – " morning " * she hands Rose a plate of pancakes *
Rose – " morning. Mm they look so good " * sitting down *
Summer – " thanks for last night "
Rose – " last night ? "
Summer – " Dahlia woke up from a nightmare and you reassured her "
Rose – " oh that. No problem. Btw she's still asleep in my bed "
Summer – " I'll tell Cole to bring her to her room "
Rose – " no, no, leave her in my bed, I was just telling you that because you might have worried not finding her in her bed. But really leave her sleep in there, is no problem "
Summer – " you're too good for this world "
Rose giggle and eat
Rose – " now I have to go, see you later "
Summer – " have a good day "
Rose exits and walk to school
Harry – " so how are things now ? "
Rose – " good morning to you too "
Harry – " good morning "
Rose – " things are really good, Summer is so sweet and Dahlia is so cute. And I finally have a father figure "
harry stops walking
Harry – " does that mean you don't need me anymore ? "
Rose – " maybe less than before, but you will never be replaced, you were there for me when nobody was. Now walk or I'll be late "
Harry starts to walk again smiling
Harry – " so I will always be your favorite man ? "
Rose stops and look at Harry
Rose – " you will always be my favorite man "
Rose touches Harry's nose and then start walking again
Rose and Harry walk side by side to school
In front of school harry stops
Harry – " have a good day "
Harry disappears
It's now 2.50 p.m. and Rose is going back home
She rings the doorbell and Marta opens the door
Rose – " Marta, what are you doing here ? "
Marta has a serious look on her face, Rose enters and sees that everybody is there
Rose – " what's going on ? "
Rose is cut off by a little voice
Dahlia – " sissyyyy"
Dahlia runs to Rose, and she picks her up
Rose – " hi "
Rose looks around, everyone was serious, even Summer
Rose – " hey Dahlia, why don't you go to Cole and go to take an ice cream "
Dahlia – " but I want to stay with you "
Rose – " when you come back we'll do whatever you want, ok? But now go with daddy "
Rose puts down Dahlia and she goes to Cole.
Dahlia and Cole exit.
Rose – " ok what's wrong ? "
Summer – " honey can you sit please ? "
Everyone sits at the table
Summer – " I called everyone because, well emm, we want to understand what happened to you "
Marta – " we want to know how you lived with your mother "
Rose looks down at her hands and take a deep breath
Aster – " hey, doll, take your time "
Summer takes Rose's hands in hers
Rose – " ok, so, my dad left us when I was 2, since then my mom begun to drink. She spent all of our money in alcohol, and she became an alcoholic. We didn't have money for food, so I only ate at school. "
Luis – " that's why you ate that horrible food "
Rose – " yes, it was the only food I ate. My room wasn't really a room, I slept on mattrass I found in the garbage, I had my clothes in a box and the room was full of dust and rats. If I went home late after school I got yelled at and once my mom even threw a bottle at me, I had glasses in my leg. I always came home to find her drunk, she begun to beat me, and I was used to cover my bruises for not let other people see. I used to sneak out for going to my special place to watch the sunset, I love sunsets, I always brought my ukulele with me so I could play by myself and relax.
I loved watching out of the window at night, looking at the stars, because I love the dark of the night with only the light of the moon. Then one day there was a knock on my door and it was civil service, the man tells me to pack my things and when I exit I see you  * Rose looks at Summer * next to your car. They brought me in this orphanage, and I asked to the officer who called them, he said – the woman who was standing outside and her sister -    * Rose looks at Marta *. I was in that orphanage for three weeks and now here I am "
Summer hugs Rose
Then everyone hugs Rose
Rose – " my mother was sent in a detox center for alcoholic people "
Malia – " I think it was best for her "
There's knock on the door
Marta – " I'll get it, it's probably Dahlia "
Marta opens the door
Marta – " what are you doing here ? "
Lucy – " can I see my daughter ? "
Marta – " THERE'S NO WAY YOU'RE SEEING HER " * yelling *
The others look at each other hearing Marta screaming
Summer – " what the hell is going on ? "
They all go to the door
Rose sees her mother
Lucy – " baby "
Lucy tries to get closer to Rose, but Summer stops her
Summer – " don't you dare take another step closer to her "
Rose was in Aster arms, he was protecting her
Lucy – " I'm clean now, I just want to talk to my daughter "
Summer – " well actually she's my daughter right now, I legally adopted her "
Rose let go of Aster and goes over to Summer and Lucy
Rose – " Summer "
Summer turns around to see her
Summer – " Rose, go to your room "
Rose – " it's ok, she said she's sober "
Summer lets Rose pass
Rose is facing Lucy who is laughing
Lucy – " you say you're her mother but she still calls you with your name " * to Summer *
Summer tries to punch Lucy, but Rose stops her
Rose – " stop, it's not wort it, you would be exactly like her otherwise "
Summer backs off and Rose faces Lucy
Rose – " so, why are you here ? "
In that moment from the door enters Dahlia with Cole following
Dahlia runs over to Rose
Dahlia – " I'm back "
Lucy – " who is this little bitch here ? "
Rose – " hey! Don't you dare talk about her like that! you can say whatever you want to me but not her. "
Dahlia was hiding behind Rose's leg
Rose bends over to Dahlia
Rose – " sweetie, why don't you go with aunty Malia to your room and I'll be there in a few minutes ? "
Rose looks at Malia. Malia takes Dahlia's hand and walks to her room, closing the door
Lucy – " oh, now you're defending your little sister, aw how cute. Staying with these rich people does not help, let me remind you where you were born "
Lucy punches Rose in the face
Rose falls on the ground
Summer – " Rose! "
Summer and Marta run over to her while Aster and Brian take Lucy out with force.
In that moment Dahlia exits from her room and sees Rose on the ground, she freezes.
Lucy – " you're only a slut " * shouting while being dragged away*
Summer and Marta help Rose up and sit her on a chair.
Luis brings to Rose an ice bag.
Summer – " does it hurt ? "
Rose – " definitely "
Marta – " let me see "
Rose takes the ice bag off to reveal her eye bleeding
Summer – " geez "
Dahlia saw Rose's eye and she begun to scream
Malia – " Dahlia, sweetie, Rose is fine. Go back inside "
Malia tries to push Dahlia back inside, but she manages to get away. Dahlia runs up to Rose.
Aster and Brian come back inside.
Dahlia looks at Rose and climbs up to sit on her legs
Dahlia – " let me see "
Rose – " I don't think is a good idea "
Dahlia – " pweeeessss "
Rose takes the ice bag off. Dahlia looks at Rose's eye and then gives a kiss to it. Rose, Summer and the others smile.
Rose – " thank you "
Dahlia – " who was that lady ? "
Rose – " well um, that lady was my biological mother "
Dahlia – " did she do that to you ? "
Rose – " yes, she did "
Dahlia – " why ? "
Rose – " darling, I'll explain it to you when you will be older, now you wouldn't understand "
Dahlia – " but I want to- "
Rose cuts her off
Rose – " why don't you go to my room, grab my ukulele and bring it here so I'll sing something to you ? "
Dahlia – " yayyy "
Dahlia goes to Rose's room jumping in happiness
Everyone is laughing
Summer looks at Rose
Summer – " thank you "
Rose – " it's easy to distract her " * smiling *
Aster – " why don't we order pizza ? "
Cole – " yes! You'll all eat here "
Dahlia comes back with the ukulele and gives it to Rose
Summer – " hey babe, we'll all order pizza to eat here, do you like the idea ? "
Dahlia – " why don't we order cheeseburger, fries and sodas? Rose never had one "
Luis and Cole – " YOU NEVER HAD ONE ? "
Rose is laughing
Rose – " as I told you, I only ate what they gave us in school so"
Marta – " deal, we're having burgers. Good idea Dahlia "
Dahlia smiles all proud of herself
Brian – " I'll call, you better be singing when I come back "
Everyone laughs
Rose – " okay " * laughing *
Rose plays some songs when she gets interrupted by a knock on the door
Malia – " dinner's here "
Summer – " god I'm starving "
Everyone sits at the table and Brian puts a burger, fries and a soda in front of everyone
They all look at Rose
Rose – " what ? "
Aster – " you never had one so we want to see your reaction "
Rose takes a bite of the burger
Rose – " holy sh- "
Rose is cut off by Summer coughing
She looks over at Dahlia
Rose – " I was saying, omg is so good "
Dahlia – " told you "
Everyone begins to laugh at Rose almost cursing in front of Dahlia
They all eat
Rose looks at the time
Rose – " Summ "
Summer – " yeah "
Rose shows her the time
Summer – " omg, young lady is time to go to bed "
Dahlia – " but I don't wanna go "
Rose – " what if I sing to you until you fall asleep ? "
Dahlia – " yess " * she runs to her room *
Everyone laughs a little bit
Rose – " I'll be back in five minutes " * laughing *
Summer – " thank you "
Rose goes to Dahlia's room
Marta – " she really is a good big sister "
Summer – " she is, they bonded since the first moment "
Aster – " soo, any boys yet? "
Summer – " I don't think so, she never mention anybody "
Cole – " there better be nobody "
Brian – " uuu, already dad jealousy? "
Cole – " shut up " * laughing *
Rose comes out of Dahlia's room, Summer looking at her.
Summer – " already asleep ? "
Rose – " as a baby "
Summer – " your voice really is magical. I never managed to get her asleep that fast"
Cole – " confirmed "
Rose laughs
Rose – " I'm gonna go to bed too"
Marta – " are you sure you don't want to stay here with us? Tomorrow is Saturday you don't have school "
Rose – " yes, I'm tired. Night "
Rose gives a kiss to Summer and Cole then goes to her room
Summer – " night honey "
Aster – " goodnight doll " * shouting a little *
Rose – " goodnight asshole "
They all laugh
Summer – " stop calling her doll "
Marta – " if it wasn't for the fact that she's fifteen I might think that you're in love with her. You call her doll; you were protecting her form her mother before and you asked if there is any boy "
Cole – " Aster !"
Aster – " noo, come on. She's fifteen. I feel more like a big brother figure, you know, big brothers always protect their little sister, and they are jealous if there are other boys, like a father "
Summer – " you, a big brother figure to her. I like the sound of that "
They smile
