A New Rose

Scene 13

Rose arrives at home from school
Rose – " I'm home "
Dahlia runs to Rose
Dahlia – " mom is in the kitchen "
Rose and Dahlia go to the kitchen
Summer – " hey honey how was school to- "
Summer stops and looks at Rose
Rose – " what ? "
Summer – " what are those marks on your neck "
Rose tries to cover them with the sweater
Rose – " um nothing "
Summer – " are those hickeys ? "
Rose doesn't reply
Summer – " ROSE ! " * screaming *
Rose – " WHAT? " * screaming  *
Summer – " ARE THOSE GOD DAMN HICKEYS ? " * screaming *
Rose – " YES, OK? AM I NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE A BOYFRIEND NOW? "
Summer – " NO ! " * screaming *
Rose – " WHY ? "
Summer doesn't reply
Rose – " JUST TELL ME WHY "
Summer – " I'm just surprised anyone would date you. You keep eating and you're getting fat, the girl that day was right " * under her breath *
Rose – " what ? " * shocked, tearing up *
Rose storms out of the room, she slams her bedroom door and goes on the bed crying
Summer in the kitchen
Summer – " FUCK ! " * banging the table *
After a while Dahlia walks in Rose's room, climbs on her bed and position herself on Rose's lap.
Rose is still crying
Dahlia – " hey look at me "
Dahlia lift Rose's chin up and dries her tears
Dahlia – " you are perfect just the way you are, and I will always love you, no matter what "
Rose smiles
Rose – " thank you little devil "
Dahlia hugs Rose
Summer knocks on the door
Summer – " get ready Rose, we're leaving, Dahlia you stay home with daddy "
Summer leaves
Dahlia looks at Rose worried
Rose – " I'll be fine, now go with daddy "
Dahlia goes to Cole
Rose gets ready and goes to the living room where Summer was waiting for her
Summer – " let's go "
Summer and Rose get in the car.
During the ride nobody speak, until the car stops.
Summer – " we're here "
Summer and Rose exit from the car, Summer goes over to Rose.
Summer – " I'm sorry. I didn't mean a thing of what I've said, I was mad because me and Cole had a fight before, so I was out of my mind. Of course you're allowed to have a boyfriend, and I would love to meet him. And you're perfect just the way you are, that girl was extremely wrong. I'm so sorry "
Rose hugs Summer
Rose – " but why did you bring me here ? "
Summer – " you said you love sunset. I have some blankets and snacks in the car, and this is the best place to watch the sun going down "
Rose smiles intensely
Summer grabs the blankets from the car and places them on the grass, Rose takes the snacks.
Both of them watch the sunset.
Rose – " so you said you and dad got into a fight ? "
Summer – " yes, but is nothing important "
Summer's eyes begin to water
Rose – " it doesn't seem like it. You wanna talk about it? "
Summer – " I found out his ex has been writing to him "
Rose – " WHAT ? "
Summer – " yes, I talked to him and he got mad at me for looking at his messages. He said she wrote to him as a friend, but I don't know what to think "
Summer breaks down crying
Rose – " hey come here "
Rose hugs Summer really thigh
Rose – " you'll figure this out. Together. "
Rose puts her forehead against Summer's.
Rose wipes Summer's tears away from her cheeks
Rose – "God I wish I had my ukulele with me "
Summer – " wait, I thought you might have wanted it "
Summer goes over to the car and grabs Rose's ukulele
Rose – " no way" * laughing *
Summer gives the ukulele to Rose
Rose – " what song should I play for cheer you up ? "
Summer – " the moon song "
Rose laughs
Summer – " why are you laughing ? "
Rose – " it was the song Dahlia asked when she had the nightmare "
Summer smiles
Rose begins to play and sing, Summer joins her.
Rose – " that was really good "
Summer – " thank you "
Rose keeps playing the ukulele while watching the sunset
Summer notice that Rose is shivering
Summer – " here "
Summer puts a blanket over Rose
Rose – " thanks "
It's dark now, Summer and Rose are watching at the sky
Rose – " I love the dark of the night, the light coming from the moon and the stars "
Summer – " me too "
Rose – " when I was eight I said something that shocked some people. I said that you can see someone's real soul in the dark. That's why I like it "
Summer – " wow, that's a deep thought for an eight years old girl "
Rose – " I realize it now "
Summer – " let's go home sweetie "
Rose – " nooo, I want to stay here, forever "
Rose cuddles up to Summer
Summer – " I would like that too, but it's getting late and tomorrow you have school"
Rose – " okay " * annoyed *
Summer drives back home
