Irritations: Marren POV

The black and white video feed in front of me flickered slightly, and my jaw twitched in irritation. It's not as if anything changed in the feed, but my irritation was sparked, nonetheless. This shitty equipment. This shitty location. All of them fucking inconveniences. Fuck!

"Sir."

I didn't look away from the unchanging feed as I responded,

"What?"

I heard the fool gulp from in front of me before he responded in a slightly shaking voice,

"S-sir, Mr. Vintaurist said that he's found a way to shorten the transportation delay, but it won't be available until the day after tomorrow..."

My bloodlust filled the room as my irritation reached new levels. The useless shit's voice died away as he struggled to remain in the room; his heart racing like a scared prey. All of this useless fucking information! Shit! I growled as my eyes flicked towards the tense brunette in front of my desk,

"Did that fucker even explain the origins of this delay in the first place? Or did you even think to ask?"

He avoided my eye as his forehead began to moisten with droplets of sweat.

"W-well, si-"

"Since you're beating around the bush, I'll take the opportunity to answer my own fucking question. 'No sir. I was too much of a dumb fuck to ask such basic questions'. Am I right?"

He didn't respond, and I shot out his shoulder and left kneecap,

"Get the fuck out of my sight before you lose more than a few limbs."

He bowed awkwardly before leaving,

"Yes, sir."

My eyes went back to the video feed, my eyes narrowing. Still unmoving. Nothing had happened in the past two days and yet I couldn't pull my attention away.

"Must your office be so unsanitary?"

I rolled my eyes, but didn't look towards the voice.

"Why are you in here? Don't you have work to attend to?"

The wood of my desk creaked slightly before she responded in a bored tone,

"Do I look like a witch to you? What am I supposed to do in such raggedy accommodations? On top of that, you've been unproductive yourself staring at that feed as if it's the greatest thing to ever exist."

Ignoring her last sentence, I asked a different question entirely,

"Why have we been delayed? I have yet to hear a satisfying answer from the other end; Alexei included."

I heard an annoyed click of the tongue,

"How are you in command when you don't even know something so simple?"

My brows furrowed and in the next moment, I held a slender, tanned throat in my grasp; the back of this mouthy woman's head bouncing off of the desk before I leaned over so my flashing eyes could clearly meet hers,

"Watch your mouth and answer the question."

Her hands scratched at my hand without doing any damage. What could a human do to a shifter, anyway? I could feel her trying to nod, but my grip prevented quite a few things, movement being one of them. Her face got redder by the second as her eyes watered from the struggle to intake oxygen. As her eyes became bloodshot and slightly hazy, I finally released her; my eyes returning to the video feed and my hand to my armrest. Her coughs and wheezes became background noise for a while before she finally began to respond,

"Fucker."

I clicked my tongue as she continued,

"There's a blizzard quickly moving in. In case you'd forgotten, it's winter and we're in an area close enough to the north that storms can be quite brutal. Traveling is ill-advised for the moment, ergo, the delay. We're stuck unless you suddenly learned control weather while watching that feed."

I glared at the woman to see that she was now stood a few feet from my desk at the moment. My eyes narrowed before I looked back at the feed,

"Whatever."

I expected to hear her leave, but instead I heard no movement at all. Before I had the chance to ask, she spoke once more,

"What about that wolf fascinates you so much? Wasn't it your plaything before? Is it so different now?"

I stared at the feed. The figure displayed had yet to move for the last two days. He sat at the back of his cell with two holes above his head in the brick wall he used as a backrest. She was right. Now that my pet was back, was he so different now? I didn't have an answer, not that I was obligated to provide one. Looking away, I turned my attention back to the woman,

"It's no concern of yours."

She looked at me for a moment longer before shrugging as she turned,

"This is true."

My eyes flickered back to the feed momentarily before I turned my attention to my laptop. I clicked through a few emails before going back to the biggest setback to date. A growl slipped from my throat as I read up on the specifics. The more I read, the more irritated I became. An entire facility, along with its resources; gone. I looked through the files a bit more. Well, at least it wasn't anywhere too important. The biggest loss was monetary. The subjects and equipment were reclaimed by an Ensis task force and, the most irritating part of this was that, with the right person looking, they could find a fair amount of information on the progress of the products. I bit the inside of my cheek as I thought. Would they actually find anything? As of now, they're still a bit behind us, from my understanding. My eyes grazed over the reports from the overtaken facility. It seems this place wasn't doing much research towards the end. I hummed in thought. It might not be as bad as it looks. The biggest loss would be the equipment, if these reports were accurate. As I looked through the list of lost slaves. The only one that actually caught my eye was a pretty little blood sucker. Shame it was defective, seeing as it was blind. I looked through a few other reports before glancing momentarily at the feed. Still no change. As I started to leave my desk, my phone rang. I glanced at the caller ID to see Alexei's name. What does he want now?
