Robins chirping in the morning light;
wet, dewy grass from the dark of night;
I wake up and feel instant delight -
Another wonderful day is ahead!
The world wakes up at the break of dawn;
The sun pours gold all over my lawn;
A mother deer prances with her fawn -
another beautiful day is ahead!
All of these things and so much evermore
sparks joy in the heart and the soul, I'm sure.
But, days can be gloomy and gore-y and sad;
Darkness seems to be all that's ahead.
Gay people killed for loving other men -
Black people killed for their color of skin -
Crimson blood spilling onto the pavement;
Yet another horrid day is ahead.
Innocents murdered for unjust reasons,
expected to sit there bloodied and beaten
while others preach of a land of freedom?
Yet another unfair day is ahead.
Change is needed - we also have rights.
Change is needed, 'cause there ain't one in sight!
Change is needed today, not tonight -
Change is needed to save all of our lives.
