Defining the Magic

A first love is like the luminous sun

on a gloomy day.

A first love is like the new chapter

 of your favorite book.

A first love is like a rose that

blossoms through concrete.

A first love is a grand slam

in a tied game.

A first love can make your worries melt away like

ice cream on a scorching summer day.

However...

A first love can conjure anxiety like

a test you didn't study for.

A first love is like a corn maze

with no way out.

A first love is like the final chords

of your favorite songs.

A first love is like the frigid air of a

winter morning's chill.

A first love is like a roller coaster ride;

thrilling, yet terrifying until its end.

This poem was co-written by me and my two classmates Emalyn Osborne and Klea Omari as an assignment to recreate and modernize the poem Defining the Magic by Charles Bukowski.
