Pete's Life Advice No. 4
If you are a scholarship student (Especially a need based scholarship student), make sure you befriend a few top students, ideally sophomore's or juniors who get good grades. So that you can get guidance, notes and advice from them.
Please note, befriending someone purely on the basis of academia versus using them for academic reasons are different. The former requires that you clarify the expectations you have from them and if they say no you back off.
The second one is just where you offer friendship in exchange for academic help.....
That's an a**hole move, please don't do that.
__________
Vegas.
The first time I came across this name was during the first week of our university, when our Financial Accounting teacher gave us notes from one of his previous students. On the bottom of the notes, 'Made by Vegas T.' was mentioned.
"Wait is this allowed?" One of my class fellow asked our lecturer.
"Usually no. I have taken special permission from the Dean on using this student's notes. In my 30 years of teaching I have never seen such brilliant notes of my course." Our teacher explained.
He wasn't kidding my math was a bit weak and finance and accounting was already something I dreaded. But damn, this Vegas guy's notes were so simple and clear. Like this guy actually understood what he wrote down and didn't just copy paste what the professor said.
I later learnt that this Vegas guy is one of the top students in the University and the top student in the Business Administration Faculty. So of course he had to be academically smart.
Post the whole Porsche scenario and my mid terms, I realized that my grades had suffered a bit, and I needed to get my stuff together. I figured I should reach out to the Vegas guy and ask him if he could give guidance on my other courses since Financial Accounting was the only course I had managed to get the highest marks in my class, and that was purely because of his notes.
I searched his name on our University Page and even searched IG for him but to no avail. This guy was a ghost on social media. I even had Arm look into him (Arm was the best stalker out of the three of us) but even he couldn't track him down.
I thought about asking Kinn, since they were in the same year, but Ithe very thought of asking him freaked me out and decided against it.
That left only one person.
My Financial Accounting lecturer.
I briefed him about my issue.
"I'm not surprised; He's a very private person. I think we teachers see him more than the his own batch mates do. I sometimes worry about him." He said with a thoughtful look, "How about I mention about you and then if he is okay with it you guys could exchange numbers or something?"
"Thank you so much!" I responded.
A few days later, my lecturer told me that he had spoken with Vegas and he was okay with exchanging numbers but that he would only ever text and would be too busy to meet up.
I honestly didn't care about meeting him; I just needed his help.
So I texted him introducing myself and asking for guidance in the courses, I was struggling with.
"I wonder what he looks like." I thought to myself.
I clicked on his profile picture and it was just pitch black.
