His Padawan

Closer to the Edge

Kiara and Jak walked between the beds of the wounded.

He had become one of her closest friends, always by her side.

The two made an odd but somehow perfect picture; a large scarred man and a small scarred girl.

Kiara had yet to talk to him, but Jak was patient.

Anakin was not.

"Are you ever going to talk to me?" He asked her that night.

She smiled at him and shrugged.

On the inside, Anakin was worried and frustrated. He had been nothing but kind and protective towards her. Yet she still wouldn't talk.

He was so good at fixing things....so why couldn't he fix her?

Kiara rose early. She slipped into her robe and quickly checked on the last two wounded clones.

Then she headed off into the forest surrounding their base.

She ran lightly through the woods, barely making a sound.

Finally, Kiara found what she was looking for.

A small Separatist base stood out against a mountain, close enough to be a threat to her clones.

Quietly, she scouted around the area.

The base was built right into the side of the mountain with huge laser cannons positioned towards the forest and towards the sky.

As she got closer, Kiara could see the droids guarding the landing pad and the entrance.

Anakin would definitely want to know about this.

She felt a tingling warning through the Force.

Then everything went black.

....

He woke up with a start. Another nightmare had left him shaky and anxious.

Anakin shook the dream's terror off and checked on the wounded.

For seemingly the first time in two weeks, Anakin saw Jak without Kiara.

"Where's Kiara?" He asked, trying to ignore his racing heart.

"She's not with you? I figured you guys were doing your Jedi training stuff" Jak said.

Anakin tried to stay calm and they searched the base for his Padawan.

She was nowhere to be found.
