The night was cool and it’s likely to be the best night ever for Tarila. His long chase and awaited dreams to get a hold of Nengimote has finally come to fulfillment. There were shouting, smiling and exchange of pleasantries in the air as the couple walks in royalty into the wedding hall. Nengimote beauty seems to startle everyone that comes close to her and even Tarila who was the supposed husband couldn’t help but still stared at her face and figures. The Dj was in high spirit on that day and was playing Johnny Drille’s song titled ‘Romeo and Juliet’, and the congregation can be found to be singing alongside with him. Tarila’s excitement was about to get to the apex level when the Mc said, ‘you may now kiss your bride’, as he was about to engage with her lips, Ifeanyiwa slap which sounded like thunder, brought him back to reality.

‘Are you crazy Tarila, do I seem to look like your girlfriend?’ was the question. Tarila who was still in the state of discombobulation gave out a shivering response saying, ‘what am I doing here?’ there was confusion in the air even as Ifeanyiwa sat upright on the bed.

At the volley ball pitch the next day, the coach who was a Youth Corp that introduced the game into the school was mesmerized at Tarila’s poor play on the pitch. She couldn’t offer to look at Tarila’s poor handling of the ball and so called on him to know what’s actually wrong with him. ‘What’s wrong and why are you playing poorly today?’ she asked. Tarila took a demean look at the teacher and said, ‘there’s nothing wrong ma’am. I’m fine but I don’t think I can do this anymore’, he said and the reply from the Corp was ‘ Okay! You’re free to do whatever you wish’ even as he walks away with head bow down. His friends were worried as he walked away and tried in convincing him not to leave the team but his decision was final.

Nengimote finally made a female friend named Ebi who was beautiful though not as Nengimote. A girl of sixteen and dark in complexion. When she laughs a set of white teeth can be seen. She was of a slender physique and a total extrovert. She seems to be interested in all the activities that usually go on in the school from the Art and drama club to the choral group in the school. Ebi was awarded the previous term as the most social student in the school but one incredible thing that made her unique was her skill in playing the guitar and her musical voice and command and being a friend to Nengimote is the best thing that could have ever happen to her as she said. Their love for each other grews by seconds which made them to share secrets with one another. It was then Ebi knew why Nengimote has been acting like a feminist towards the males.

‘Do you know Tarila is totally in love with you?’ Ebi said to Nengimote while they were both walking home after the school activities of that day. ‘Yeah! I know but he should recognize also that I don’t give a damn shit about him or any other guy’ replied Nengimote. ‘Well, those guys won’t just stop persuading you till they’ve gotten what they want’, Ebi said in a soft tone after noticing that Nengimote mind has drifted off that lane.

It was a surprise to Nengimote after arriving home to see a Lady who was a woman in her early 30s in the family room. She was stunned and hoped that the question and fear in her heart won’t be positive. ‘Good afternoon ma’am’ said Nengimote in her native style of greeting and the lady replied with a croaky and rough village accent ‘Good afternoon my dear. How’re you ……’ and before she could complete her sentence Nengimote walked into her bedroom.

Nengi! Nengi! Nengi! Nengimote! Her father called onto her with a deep baritone voice and without much hesitation she ran down the staircase to meet her father who was at the Living room with the strange lady she met in the afternoon still sitting in the same position. ‘Eeehn eehn Nengi, this is Funke Lekon and she shall be your new mother and you must give her all the necessary respect as a mother and you must treat her as you treated your former Witch mother and I know she will give you the best treatment of a mother’ said Mr. Charles authoritatively. And then it dawn on Nengimote that the question which was in her heart has finally been answered and the mention of her mother being a witch was censorious to her. Welcoming a new lady into the house was difficult for her but what can she do about it. She whispers to herself as she goes back to her room crying. Life seems to be getting tough for her as the days goes by and her father is making it all worse for her just because of a mistake she made and the wrongful accusation of her mother as a witch. That night sleep ran away from her as the thoughts about her life with a new mother and how much her life has become ran through her mind.
