It was nearly sundown.

It was a rainy day, but the sun was visible over the horizon, considering going to sleep, not yet that perfect minute caught between day and night. Nearly there.

Things had been... good since the end of the mission.

Sarah, Finch, and the boys had picked Kade up when the carrier docked, nearly tackling her the moment she stepped off the gangway. They bombarded her with updates and questions, relief rolling off them in waves. It felt good to be loved. She no longer ran from it. Kade didn't know this — and she never would — but from across the dock, Sarah caught sight of Hangman staring. He caught her gaze and looked mortified at having been caught, but she just smiled with a knowing look in her eye.

She was right. He loved her.

In the days that followed, Pete and Penny made it official, and everyone was relieved they finally got their sh—t together. Especially since he was going to be in Miramar long term. Her uncle was being assigned to lead a new specialized squadron out of North Island, called The Daggers. Bradley had also been assigned to this new squadron, and he was excited to finally have a place to call home again.
