I feel tears well up in my eyes and I quickly jump off Zak's lap making sure people don't see me. I figured Zak would probably come after me, but I'm glad he doesn't. I look back quickly as I near the downstairs bathroom and see him and everyone else grabbing some pizza from the kitchen. I cry as silently as I can in the bathroom before pulling myself together and joining them.
"We saved you some pizza in there," Billy says as I near the living room.
"Oh, thanks, but I don't think I could stomach that right now," I smile.
Zak glances to me making sure I'm alright and I give him a reassuring smile. Aaron is the first one to gobble down his pizza and he runs out the French doors, pulling off his shirt in the process and makes a big splash in the pool. "Come on, guys!" He yells from outside. Jay and Billy follow along with Zak and Chris. Kelsey stays behind with me and unfortunately, Angela.
"Give it back." I spit to Angela as soon as the guys aren't in earshot.
"What are you talking about?" She plays dumb.
"My necklace. You're wearing my necklace that you fucking stole from me!" I yell. At this point I didn't care who heard or saw. Kelsey pulls me away from Angela as I fight back more tears. We make our way outside to join the guys and I can tell Zak senses there's something wrong. He hops up over the edge of the pool and climbs out. His glistening wet body distract my pissed thoughts about Angela.
"Are you okay?" He asks grabbing my arm to pull me to him.
"Zak, you're wet!" I say little too loud annoyed, pushing him away.
"What's going on?"
"Nothing," I answer quickly. I can't even look at him. I know if I do I definitely won't be able to fight the tears. I look over to my right and see Kelsey walking outside with her purple bathing suite on ready to join the guys in the pool. Purple had always been her favorite color. I turn more to see if I still see Angela inside, but she wasn't there. I could care less to know where that bitch went.
Zak leaves me and joins everyone in the pool. I'm glad he didn't keep asking me questions. I'm sure if there wasn't so many people here he would've. I walk over to Zak's water fountain garden and find my place on the sing there. I just honestly wanted to get away from everyone for a minute. This party was a bad idea.
After a few minutes, Gracie find me and sits with me allowing me to stroke the top of her head. I feel like we sit there together for what seems like 20 minutes. "Well, I guess we should get back over there," I say to the cute black eye patched dog. I head back over to the pool with Gracie close by to find Angela still missing, but to my worry, Zak was too. "Where's Zak?" I ask Kelsey who's still splashing away in the pool.
"Oh, Angela said something about...umm...returning a necklace that she borrowed," Chris chimes in since Kelsey pays no attention as she's too busy getting back at Aaron for dunking her under water. Borrowed? Yeah, right bud. "I think she had put it in Zak's room or something. He might've gone to go get it. I think he wanted to surprise you, but you should go up there," This can't be good. Why was Chris being so weird? Did he know something? What the hell was going on?
I head upstairs to Zak's room afraid of what I may see. I don't believe Zak to be the cheating type, even though he kind of did with Angela, and I don't suspect to see anything, but I purposefully don't call out his name so I can catch them in the act if anything is going on. Sadistic, I know. As I near his bedroom door I walk slowly and quietly. I catch a glimpse of Angela's red dress first with her perfect red high heels. I peer more around the corner and saw her sucking face...with him. I couldn't believe what I was watching.
"You bastard!" There is no choking back these tears. I sob as I run as fast as my short legs take me down the stairs breathing heavily.
"Fuck. Shawn, wait! Please, wait!" Zak cries after me.
"I trusted you! With everything! I TRUSTED YOU!" Tears flood my eyes making it difficult to see.
"It's not what you think." A tears falls down Zak's cheek.
"Really? You're using that line?" At this point everyone was watching. "Great. We seem to have an audience. Go ahead, Zak. Why don't you tell everyone what really happened," I gesture my arms out to our group of friends.
"What happened?" Chris asks.
"How did you know?" Zak's attention is now to Chris.
"What?"
"The necklace. How did you know about it? I didn't tell you," Zak wipes his face. "The only way you knew is if Angela told you or..." I keep my focus on Zak wondering myself what he's getting at. "You..." Zak sobs some more. "You were with her that night you fucking son of a bitch!" I had never seen Zak so angry. I was scared what was happening, but then I finally got it. Chris helped Angela vandalize mine and Kelsey's apartment. "How could you do that?! What if...what if she was there?" Zak cries. "What would you have done?" Chris acts like he is going to answer when Zak cuts him off. "This was all part of your plan, huh?"
"Congrats, Zaky," Angela's clap is deafening as she slowly descends the stairs. "Though, it wasn't his plan. It was mine. He was just going along with it for me."
"Are you happy now, Angela?" I cry. "You got Zak." I look to him. "Because we're done." I'm out of breath from all the chaos. Zak cries even harder.
"Oh, I didn't want Zak. I never wanted him back," Angela explains. "I wanted to get him. Get him back for what what he did." She finally steps down off the last step. "You see, it was supposed to be me. Me...and Zak. But now it's just him..." She eyes him down, then me. "And you, you pathetic little--"
"I would stop that sentence right now before I bash your face in." Kelsey is always so bold when it comes to this kind of thing.
"So, then what was the kiss about upstairs just now?" I wonder with no more energy to yell.
"I don't know. You'll have to ask him," she eyes to Zak. "Come on, Chris!" Angela struts over to Chris and they make their way to the door.
"Oh, Chris," Zak speaks up and meets his eyes fiercely. "Don't ever talk to me again."
They leave and everyone else soon follows. I will have to make an appoint to call everyone later and smooth things over. We still have Hill View tomorrow and I don't want things to be weird amongst the crew.
Zak's POV
It's silent. Too silent between Shawn and I. Neither of us have moved yet since we both ran down the stairs. I suspect she's going to ask about the kiss, but instead I see her grab my keys attempting to leave. "Where the fuck are you going?" Tears still fall down my face, my eyes burning from fighting them. "We need to talk about this!" I plea after her.
"No, Zak! We don't!" She turns quick on her heel to face me. "You kissed her. I don't need to know why. I'm just done."
"Please," I beg barely able to get the words out through the sobs. "You know how much I love you."
"Yeah well you have a funny way of showing it." She tries leaving again, but I was able to get close enough to grab her wrist.
"She told me that the only way she would give you the necklace back is if I kissed her."
"Fuck that. Zak, you're an adult! You don't have to give in to her childish reasonings! I'm outta here. You can get your car later." I stay silent at the shock of her words. "I will still go to Hill View, but for me, because I told you I would. And for Jay so he doesn't have to sit at nerve center all night like he always does. Goodbye Zak." Shawn rips her wrist away from my grasp and she's out the door. I reach into my pants pocket where I slipped Shawn's necklace after Angela's hateful kiss and sob.
