Ponyboy had plopped down in the lot. It was a beautiful day in Tulsa. The sky was a brilliant blue and there wasn't a cloud in the sky.

Pony sat in the grass and laid on his back. He had on a pair of Soda's old jeans with the knees in tatters and an old sweatshirt with the sleeves cut off.

It was an extremely hot day, but it was pleasant. Ponyboy's stomach was exposed from the wind blowing his shirt up. He continued to lay in the sun with his arms behind his head. God, it was an amazing day.

Something dropped to the ground next to Ponyboy and his eyes snapped open. Dallas
Winston was grinning down at him from the tall grass.

"Hello, Dally pie." Pony mocked a girl's voice and Dally rolled his eyes.

"Call me that again and your face will look like a pie." Dally dryly threatened. Pony gazed up at the older boy and cocked his eyebrow. That was something he picked up from Two-Bit.

"What kinda pie?"

"I dunno." Dally frowned. "What's got you in such a good mood?"

"It's a nice day! Why wouldn't I be in a good mood?" Pony asked. He was practically oozing joy and happiness. Dally had on a white tank-top and his favorite pair of jeans. A flannel was tied around his waist. His arms had a bunch of bruises and a few old scars from knife fights.

"I dunno. It's hot as hell?" Dally asked. He didn't care much for hot weather. Warm weather was good, but not hot weather.

Ponyboy sat up suddenly in the grass and started grabbing at the flowers. Some wild flowers would grow in the lot during spring and summer. They were always red, white, purple, and yellow. Ponyboy plucked some out of the grass and started tinkering with them.

"What are you doing?" Dally leaned over the younger boy's shoulder and watched as he weaved the purple and red flowers together. The blooms were pointing outward and the stems were twisted intricately. It looked like a crown. Ponyboy turned toward Dally and looked at him expectantly.

Dally furrowed his eyebrows. "What?" He asked. Pony bit back a smile.

"It's a flower crown. Bend your head and let me put it on you." Pony said. Dally didn't move for a moment like he was thinking.

He slowly bent like he was bowing and Pony chuckled. He placed the flower crown in the mess of brunette hair that Dally had.

"You look cute. Want another one?" Pony asked. Dally's face was getting pick hues across his cheeks. He'd never been called cute before.

"How'd you make it? Could you teach me?" Dally asked. He had one eye closed because of the sun and the other was squinting. Pony nodded.

"Grab the flowers you like. I'm sure we can figure out how to put grass in there, too." Dally tilted his head at the grass part.

"It adds a darker green to the stems!"

Dally got a bunch of whites, a handful of yellows, and two purples. Pony told him the steps and Dally tried to make it look as nice as possible. Dally's crown looked great and he wanted the one he was giving to Ponyboy look just as good.

"Uh..." Dally looked at it. It was in a crown shape, but it was thinner than the one he'd gotten. Pony smiled and Dally laughed a bit. It was nice, anyway.

"Bend down." Dally told Ponyboy. Ponyboy mimicked the bow Dally had down before.

The two purple blossoms on his crown made the red hues in his hair stand out more. His silver/green eyes were more green than anything else. Dally smiled.

"You look beautiful." Dallas complimented the youngest Curtis sibling. Dally watched the blush spread like wildfire across Pony's features.

"Damn, your ears sure can get red." Dal grinned as they both stood up.

"I gotta head home before Darry freaks out. See ya tomorrow, Cutie Pie." Ponyboy grinned as he dodged the playful punch Dally sent his way.

"See ya, Horseman." Dallas teased. Ponyboy faked a hurt expression.

"'To think I made you a flower crown." Pony placed his hand over his heart before waving and disappearing.

Dal started the long walk to Buck's house. He was still smiling about the flower crown. In all honesty, nobody had ever made him anything before. The fact Ponyboy did was.... somehow sweet.

"Hey, Greaser!" A gang of Socs called out from next to a store.

Dally's face hardened and his eyes blazed. Those Socs didn't know who they were messing with.

"What's wrong with your head, hood?" One of the Socs stepped in front of his gang. He stumbled a bit. They were drunk at 4 pm? He was staring intently at the flower crown on Dally's head.

"I'd worry about what's about to be wrong with your head." Dallas sneered and walked up to them.

"Ooh! I'm shaking!" One of the others laughed scornfully. "This Fruit's about to fight us? Bullshit."

Dallas growled. He swished the saliva around in his mouth before spitting it right on the closest Socs' face.

The Soc ran at him and he decked him right in the face. The Socs hit the ground and didn't move. He was out cold. The others were gone by the time Dally looked up. They left their friend and everything.

"Talk about my flower crown..." Dallas spat on the guy one last time. He straightened his flower crown and started back to Buck's.
