Franklin's POV

I was sweating quite profoundly as Zia's hand clamped down on my mouth to stop me from screaming at the massive, should-be-extinct dino. Which stupid asshole thought it'd be a good idea to bring these things back to life again??

Oh right, good old John Hammond. My glasses were slipping down to the bridge of my nose at this point, but I was terrified out of my wits to even move my hand and fix them. The positioning of my glasses was the last thing on my "To Worry About" list right now. The giant lizard snarled, footsteps thudding along the roads as it walked. Or should I say, stomped.

I was mentally praying for the thing to leave so we could leave as well, and hopefully not get eaten in the process. But is luck ever on my side? Hell no. The colossal T-Rex's footsteps stopped, indicating that it currently stood right outside the store we were hiding in. Do these things have a great sense of smell? I sure hope not.

Darius was motioning for us all to stay still, but my hands were uncontrobally shaking like a leaf. The set of drawers Zia and I were hiding behind were rusty, and I felt dust going into my nose. I held back the sneeze, my eyes burning as tears ran down my cheeks. Darius, sitting adjacent to us, was staring hard at me and pinching his fingers on his nose. Before I could bring my hand to my nose, a loud sneeze came out, quite accidentally of course.

Shit. The dinosaur roared, my eardrums in pain from the sound. The roof was smashed by the T-Rex as it collided with the store. Ben grabbed Aria and Sammy's hands before running the hell out of this place before we all got crushed. Zia and I followed close behind, as did everyone else. We ran along the street, my feet in pain. I was unfit, okay? The footsteps resounding behind me seemed to be getting nearer.

Oh gosh, I was going to have a freaking heart attack right now.

Sammy's POV

"I'M NOT TASTY, DAMNIT!" Franklin yelled from behind me, his voice breaking. Despite the situation we were in, Ben started to laugh from beside me, and I snorted at the random outburst. We continued to run, weaving past fallen crates and desolated stores. The trees were coming into view again, and I was hoping to lose Rexy before we lost our lives.

I couldn't keep running for much longer, and my knees felt ready to collapse. We stumbled into the trees and pushed through, Zia grabbing my hand before I tripped. I ducked under an overhanging branch, and vaguely heard Darius yell "Left!" We switched directions, panting, beads of sweat lining my face. The footsteps behind us seemed to be fading. A couple more steps. My chest was pounding as we all slowed down to rest beneath a massive cluster of trees.

Silence.

I gasped, longing for water, my throat dry. Brooklynn was leaning against a tree, taking deep breaths. Darius sat on the grass beside her, catching his own breath in the most composed way possible. I was being sarcastic. He was wheezing like a horse who'd run for 5 days straight.

My best friend Yaz, of course, was the only one out of all of us who seemed at least partially alive after the sprinting. If anything, she just seemed refreshed, and was currently being a human tree for Kenji to lean on.

Aria was patting Franklin on the back while Ben stood next to the pair, silently watching. "Hey guys..." I broke the silence, "I'm hungry."

Kenji's POV

Seriously?? We get chased by a monster dinosaur who wanted to eat us and this woman says she's HUNRGY?? Come to think of it, I'm hungry too, I thought, embarassed. Darius was finally standing up, brushing the soil off his shirt.

He took a deep breath before speaking, "Well... that didn't go well," he half laughed. Yeah, no shit. Darius sighed, "We obviously can't go back there, and I assume nobody managed to grab any supplies." He turned to me, ruffling his hair, "Kenji, do you remember where the penthouse was?"

Aria, who was intently listening to Darius, turned to me now as well. "There's a penthouse?" she asked, obviously quite confused. I nodded, not seeming to have any better response. "I think it's to that side of main street," I shielded my eyes from the sun and pointed across the trees in the direction I was hoping it would be. Come on, it's been 10 years. Give this guy a break.

"Alright then," Yaz spoke up. "I guess that's our last hope for the day before we return to that medical station." She began to walk confidently into the direction I'd vaguely pointed at. Gosh, I love this woman.

Brooklynn's POV

I pulled my phone out for the 5th time in the past two minutes. The battery had died ages ago but a part of me stupidly kept hoping that the phone would automatically charge through photosynthesis. I was going crazy, following Yaz and everyone else through the greenery.

I gripped onto Darius' arm, groaning, "So... many... bugs!" He just shook his head and smiled at my whining, before giving me a small motivational speech about how strong I was and it's only bugs. This man was amazing.

The sun disappeared from my face, the warmth going with it. Looming high into the sky was none other than Kenji's penthouse. Zia gasped next to me, obviously not knowing this place existed. I couldn't contain my excitement any longer and ran straight for the door, which had been broken down by dinosaurs. Ben decided to be sporty and a show off as he jumped through the cracked window. Tsk tsk tsk, who is he impressing?

The place was more damaged than I remembered, but hopefully we'll be able to find something useful in here. And fingers crossed, if no dinosaur is already living here, we could shift ourselves here while we find out a way to escape. We all walked deeper into the spacious room, Kenji heading straight towards the direction of the kitchen, I assume.

It wasn't even a full minute before he returned, a snack packet in his hands as he munched down satisfactorily. I didn't even want water or food, right now, I just wanted a break. I heard Aria start talking behind me, "Ben, Sammy, Franklin and I are going to check the other rooms for anything useful. We'll meet back here soon," she waved at us before walking into the hallways.

I sat down on the torn red couch, closing my eyes, a calm smile on my face. The peace didn't last for long, though. Countless plates cam crashing onto the tiles, one after the other. Damnit, Universe. What now?
