When you look at the stars
Do you think of me?
Do you think of that one joke we laughed about on a cold morning?
That one comment I made about your shoes?
Do you think of our jokes?
My presence?
Our plans to meet up?
To take me away?
Do you think of me the same way I do about you?
I thought love was simple, romantic.
Butterfly kisses in my ribs and sunflowers bloodying my lungs.
I thought love was meant to hurt my skin others have peeled off.
But you told me not to idolize you
To not worship you
But to treat you with the same care I should treat myself
To allow myself to look at the stars and wonder
If a simple poem can describe how I feel about you.
You told me that the stars were cloudy,
They're unavailable to your eyes.
But I wasn't talking about the stars in the sky
But the ones in my eyes.
Every time I look at you.
You rewrote my definition of friendship
A building block for trust, a castle of respect.
We built a temple together with a foundation built on maturity and essence.
36 questions that lead to love.
But the sunflowers in my veins have been watered
The ecosystem in my soul no longer runs dry.
So my friend, the next time you see clouds.
Know that my stars are hiding nearby.
