After a week in the hospital, (Y/N) was released but still needs to be careful so her body can heal properly. However, wasting no time, she insisted to go straight to the agency after that, and she spent four long hours making a statement to the police about the events in "the cage".
(Y/N) and Kai are now in Hawks' office eating lunch with Mirko, while he and Endeavor deal with some bureaucratic things.
"He has a lot of energy!" Mirko commented with (Y/N), looking at the baby bird jumping around and flapping his tiny red wings, delighting himself in his freedom.
"Kai is just so happy to be in a bigger place that he can't keep it to himself." the winged young woman truly smiled for the first time in years.
She wistfully mumbled to herself, "He's finally free, Ayane..."
There's no need for Mirko to ask her who this is. This name was on the list of missing people for a few years, three to be exact. The young 24 years old countryside woman disappeared with her almost one-year-old son after accepting a shady job offer in the big city. She left the little things she had behind in hopes to give a better life to her son. Even knowing it was a risk, what choice Ayane had? A single mother alone in the world with a kid to feed. She needed to take the shot.
According to (Y/N)'s statement, Ayane Miyasato was killed after someone made a bid on her wings. Just like that, her life ended like nothing. Normally they would throw her in a van and take her to one of their secondary buildings to dispose of her body easier after.
But the despair that took over her body in the moment she understood that it was the last time she was going to see her baby bird made her go insane. She made a sequel of bad choices and was brutally punished for this.
Needless to describe how this caos ended, right?
"You're a really good friend for keeping him safe all this time." Mirko looked at the still-tired eyes of the other woman.
"Honestly I did more for him than for her... Or me. Kai is such a lovely and pure soul, even after growing up in that obscure place... I just want to give him what I didn't have. Love, care, safety and a family. He deserves everything and more."
"You deserve too. All of this, y'know?" she smiled a bit, holding (Y/N)'s hand gently.
"Thanks, Mirko. Maybe... Maybe one day."
The sound of the big door being opened filled the room, bringing in no other than Hawks in all his splendor.
"Ladies and little gentleman, the best hero is back!"
"Hawks!" Kai run and jumped in his arms "Look, look! Devor gave me a plush!"
"Seriously man? Your own plush?" he whispered to Endeavor who just entered the room and is acting as if nothing happened. "Don't worry little bird, I'm gonna give you one waaay cooler than that after!"
