He was their light to their darkness.
Him the sun while he was the moon.
A sparkling shine to the dark night.
He held warmth while they only knew the cold.
A smile that was difficult to break and adorable by all.
Blue eyes that seemed inhuman and caught everyone's attention.
He was a bubble of joy that seemed to seep happiness into everyone's hearts without even trying.
His emotions were easily seen and expressed.
But he didn't wear his heart on his sleeve like everyone thought he would.
He held it buried deep into his foot, locked under key and chained down in its emotional safe.
He lost too much of his heart when his parents had died, he wouldn't allow himself to lose any more of it.
So, he loved openly and easily but never gave all of himself to a person.
He took rejection, heart break and pure hurt while standing tall and accepted the sting that came with it all each and every time.
But he kept the rest of his heart protected all along.
That's what Jason knew about his little brother.
He was openly affectionate and gave everyone attention, no matter who they were.
He made sure no one felt left out or alone.
Jason both hated and admired him when they first met.
A boy who was bruised after staying in the juvenile detention centre.
But he still smiled, bright, warm and with honest happiness.
Shy but excited to meet his new family even as he expected to be rejected by them all.
That ball of sunshine was able to win Damian over in minutes and be adopted by the eldest Wayne son.
Not even Tim, the second oldest, had been able to win Damian over completely like their newest brother had been able to do in minutes compared to his years of trying. They barely held a truce between each other and that was the best they'd get from their bond as brothers.
Even Bruce started to seem .. nicer since taking the boy in.
Jason was sure he had to be some kind of Meta in hiding or something to work such godly magic on his family.
So, Jason did what any street rat did.
He gave the new kid a cold shoulder.
