Why Now?

Chapter 2

A few hours passed by and everyone but Kai was back to the living room of the monastery, with Cole and Nya sitting on the couch while Lloyd and Jay sitting on the floor, all of them watching both Cole and Jay play Prime Empire. The two of them played really competitively, Jay sticking his tongue out in frustration as Cole took a loud sip from his soda hat. The other ninja were cheering them on, Lloyd and Nya may or may not have betted on who would win. ‘Come on!’Jay yelled, losing to Cole. Lloyd frowned as he slid 5 bucks over to Nya, the latter giving him a shit eating grin. Cole looked around the room, noticing that Kai was’nt there. Cole got up and told the rest that he was gonna look for Kai.

Cole had to admit that he had feelings for the hot-headed boy. Something about Kai drew him in, he didn't know what. Maybe it was his personality? The way he looked? Cole sighed, walking around the monastery, trying to find Kai. 

Meanwhile, Kai was in their shared room, laying on his bed, staring at the ceiling, his mind wondering. Although it was already the next morning, he still couldn't shake the thought of the nightmare he had. He couldn't help but feel like these nightmares are some form of premonition like Zane's. But he wasn't here to ask, plus he wouldn't want him to know either. Besides, the only ones who should know about it were Jay and Nya, although Nya knew less details.

It didn’t really help that he had feelings for the earth ninja. Somehow through all their journeys, he fell for that cake loving himbo. The way he stuffed his face with cake was adorable, and the way he fought was pretty attractive. Kai blushed at his thoughts and slammed his head into his pillow.  "Yo Kai, you alright here?" a familiar voice asked. Speak of the devil. "I'm fine, ya need something?" Kai sat up, hoping his blush had died out. Facing his cru- friend.

“Eh, I just came to check up on ya. You’ve been in here while everyone is having fun outside.’’Cole pointed out “IIII… just wanted to go to sleep.’’Kai excused himself to which Cole responded with, “Kai… it’s like 2 in the afternoon–’’ he was cut off. “Yeah,... I know that…  I was just replenishing my energy from last night.’’ He gave another excuse.

Cole raised his eyebrow “You didn’t sleep last night? Is that why Nya had to wake you up?’’ he questioned. Kai paused for a bit before replying “I- I had a nightmare… about… something stupid…’’ “You wanna… talk about it?” Kai thought for a moment. Although this was really personal to him, he couldn’t help but feel like he could trust Cole. He’s always kept a secret and was always there for the Ninja when Kai couldn’t be there. He felt like he could tell him. Kai took a deep breath. ‘I’ve known… Jay longer than you think. We were childhood friends…’ Kai started, fidgeting his hands. Cole took a seat next to him.

"He used to visit the shop our family owned and we got along well. That's why Nya and Jay got along so well the first time we saved her." He started explaining "oh ok, did that happen in your nightmare?" "Well yes, but something else happened… Uhmm it's kind of a long story but, Morro… was there" Cole’s eyes widened in confusion. “Morro? Why was he there?” Kai squeezed his eyes shut, not wanting to see Cole’s reaction

“Well… he–'' He got cut off by P.I.X.A.L on the intercom. “I have found a possible location where the traveller's tree should grow. Please prepare to depart as soon as possible,’’ Kai mentally sighed and thanked P.I.X.A.L for the unintentional yet well-timed interruption. “Well you heard her, let’s get going.’’ Kai cleared his throat, getting off the bed. Cole stared at Kai’s back, getting off the bed. He made a mental note to ask Kai to continue the story. If not, he’ll have to ask Jay.

They got ready, headed to the bounty and awaited for P.I.X.A.L's directions.
