Present day
The six of us stand together, awaiting the threat that we were called here for. The Sovereign called us here to stop a monster of some sort from eating their batteries. After all, we're the Guardians of the Galaxy, and we've had that title for a few months. A few months earlier, I would most likely be in the position of trying to steal the Sovereign's batteries. Those days are behind me. I'm a new person, not a thief.
"Showtime, a-holes! It'll be here any minute." My eyes focus on Peter, my boyfriend. He's holding up a tracker that he made from an old Gameboy. The tracker beeps and gives him the whereabouts of the Abilisk we're supposed to fight. "Which will be its loss," Gamora adds, cocking the rifle in her hands. He turns to her and tells her, "I thought your thing was a sword." She looks at him and rolls her eyes.
"We've been hired to stop an inter-dimensional beast from feeding on those batteries, and I'm going to stop it with a sword?" she asks him, annoyed. "It's just... swords were your thing and guns were me and Y/N's, but... I guess we're all doing guns now. I just didn't know that," Peter says, pressing his lips together.
"Pete, the concept of using guns to fight things isn't that unique," I tease, snickering a bit. "I think we can allow Gamora to have one." "Okay, okay," Peter mumbles, defeated."Drax," Gamora scolds. "Why aren't you wearing one of Rocket's Aero-Rigs?" I never noticed that until she mentioned it. Drax isn't the type of guy to wear anything over his torso, so I guess I'm used to it. "It hurts," he bluntly tells her. "Hurts?" Gamora echoes. Drax mutters under his breath, "I have sensitive nipples." Rocket hollers with laughter and mocks, "My nipples hurt, oh goodness me!" "What about him?! What's he doing?" Drax angrily points to Rocket, who seems to be setting up a speaker.
"I'm finishing this so we can listen to tunes while we work," he explains. "How is that a priority?" "Blame Quill! He's the one who loves music so much!" Rocket argues. "No, I actually agree with Drax on this. That's hardly important right now," Peter tells him. "Oh, okay," Rocket says. "Sure, Quill." He gives a very obvious wink to him. "No, seriously, I side with Drax," insists Peter. I nod in agreement. "Yeah, and we never asked you to do that, anyway," I add. "No, I understand that. You're both being very serious right now." Rocket continues to wink. Drax finally speaks up and says, "I can clearly see you winking!" "Damn it! I'm using my left eye?"
A couple of Orloni squeal as Groot pushes one over and punches the other next to him. The third one runs away before Groot can get to it. They're about his size, just a little bigger. He's growing up so fast! It seems like yesterday he was still bound to his pot. Still, he's being a bit of a bully right now. "I am Groot," he defends as soon as he sees us eyeing him. "They were not looking at you funny," Rocket argues.
A large rumble echoes in the clouds above us and emits a colorful glow. As much as it's kind of cool to look at, the Abilisk that we were hired to kill emerges from the clouds. As it begins to descend, Rocket comments, "Well, that's intense." "If we can handle Ronan, we can definitely handle this thing," I encourage, pulling out both of my guns. The ugly-looking creature finally lands on the platform with a huge thud. Then we all charge toward it.
As I run toward the danger, I analyze the beast. It has large tentacles and razor-sharp teeth embedded inside its large mouth. It has very small-looking eyes, despite all of this. Kinda intimidating, right? But, as I said, we can handle this. I jump up a couple of feet in the air to give the Aero-Rig a head start as I blast my rifle in the monster's face. I swerve out of the way just as it sprays some colorful substance toward me. I fire my gun once more, not even getting a blink out of it. Well, this is gonna be a tough one.
Just as I move out of the way for Gamora to attack, I hear the beginning of an all-too-familiar song. Mr. Blue Sky by Electric Light Orchestra. What a song to play when fighting something like this. Thanks, Groot.
