All of us, including Mantis and Ego, step onto a platform as the ship gently lands. As soon as it stops moving, the platform moves forward into the outside and detaches from the ship. It leads us up into the air and forward.
Ego's Planet looks... beautiful. There are plenty of waterfalls and greenery, and there are even some mountains. Not a single area is uncovered. It's as if this planet was created to be a perfect landform. "Welcome, everyone, to my world," says Ego. "Wow," Peter smiles. "You have your own planet?" "Come on. No larger than your Earth's moon," Ego explains with a small shrug. "Humility," Drax comments. "I like it. I, too, am extraordinarily humble." Sure, Ego's humble enough. But are his intentions good?
Huge shimmering bubbles float over our heads, all one color. Drax reaches up and pops one, letting it softly explode into a million more rainbow-colored bubbles. He laughs, enjoying it. This planet is all too beautiful. It's almost unsettling how beautiful this planet is.
I smile, but don't let my guard down. We still barely know this guy.The platform approaches a castle of some sort and merges with the balcony. Ego and Mantis step forward, and we all follow after them. We walk around a water fountain as I ask Ego rather bluntly, "So, what are you, exactly? Uh, excuse me, I'm just saying that you own a planet and you can destroy a hundred spaceships without a suit. That's not something we see every day. " "You're excused. I'm what's called a Celestial, sweetheart," he explains, walking ahead of us. "A Celestial, like a god?" Peter questions. Ego turns around. "Small 'g', son," he says. "At least on the days I'm feeling as humble as Drax."
He chuckles and walks up the stairs, and we follow him. A god? Wow. I've never met a god before... I can't help but have a million questions fill my head about Ego being a god. Was he born a god? Is he immortal? What's it like having that sort of power right at your fingertips? Does this mean my boyfriend is a demi-god? Wait... No. Ego's still a stranger. I need to be on guard, god or not. He leads us inside the castle. The material looks sort of like stained glass. It's mainly gold, bronze, and blue.
"I don't know where I came from, exactly." Ego leads us to an egg-shaped display of a brain lighting up. "First thing I remember is flickering. Adrift in the cosmos utterly and entirely alone."
"Over millions of years, I learned to control the molecules around me." The display of the brain grabs some particles and morphs into a planet. "I grew smarter and stronger," he says. He turns away from the display and goes down the stairs."And I continued building from there." Another display shows the formation of Ego's planet. "Layer by layer... The very planet you walk on now." "Woah," Drax whispers. "But I wanted more," Ego adds. "I desired... meaning." He turns and walks toward another batch of displays. "'There must be some life out there in the universe... besides just me,' I thought. And so, I set myself the task of finding it."
He motions toward a display of his planet's core brain sprouting up and forming a body. "I created... what I imagined biological life to be like. Down to the most minute detail." The body turns into a guy with a red leather jacket and long brown hair.
"Did you make a penis?" Drax questions. "Dude!" Peter whirls his head around to meet Drax. "What is wrong with you?" Gamora adds. "Really, Drax?" I say, placing my hand on my hips.
"If he is a planet, how could he make a baby with your mother?" Drax asks Peter. "He would smush her!" Quill groans and tells Drax, "I don't need to hear how my parents..." "Why? My father would tell the story of impregnating my mother every wither solstice." "That's disgusting," Peter remarks. "It was beautiful," Drax whispers. "You Earthers have hang-ups." "You Kylosians have no boundaries," I retort."Yes, Drax," Ego announces. He puts his hands up. "I got a penis." "Ha! Thank you!" Drax says. "It's not half bad," Ego remarks. I grimace, wishing I could unhear that information. "I've also got pain receptors, and a digestive system, and all the accompanying junk," he explains.
"I wanted to experience what it truly meant to be human... as I set out amongst the stars." The display shows Ego's ship leaving his planet. "Until I found... what I sought. Life." The display morphs into a young Ego, finding a child. A sentient being, just like him. Well... sort of like him, as much as we know of. "I was not alone in the universe after all," Ego declares, staring longingly into the display."When did you meet my mother?" Peter asks. Ego turns to his son with a grin. "Not long after," he mutters to him. He moves on to a display, showing Ego holding a blonde woman in his arms. Peter's mom, Meredith. "It was with Meredith that I first experienced love. I... called her my river lily." The display morphs into Ego with his hands on Meredith's pregnant belly. "And from that love, Peter... you."
The display shows the fetus inside of her, who was Peter. "I have searched for you for so long," Ego tells him. "And when I heard of a man from Earth who held an Infinity Stone in his hand without dying... I knew you must be the son of the woman I loved." "If you loved her, why did you leave her?" Peter retorts. Left her while she was dying, no less. This seems to slightly stun Ego, as he opens his mouth, but no words come out.
Either it's a tough subject, or there was no good reason. I still don't fully trust him no matter what. "Let's go for a walk, shall we?" he asks Peter. What? Hell no!
I open my mouth to object, but Peter turns around toward me. He gives me a sincere look. I hesitantly give him a nod. As long as he's on his guard, I think he'll be okay.I hope so, at least... I still have a bad feeling about this.
