Friends? - Kai parker

Summary: it gets harder for Ayla to be Kai's friend when he's hanging out with other girls. Especially when she's in love with him

AYLA WAS WALKING DOWN THE STAIRS OF THE SALVATORE HOUSEHOLD TO GET SOMETHING TO DRINK. She had lived there with Stefan and Damon having been their cousin and although a lot of drama followed the boys wherever they went, she wouldn't change it

Caroline, Bonnie and Elena's heads snapped up seeing her walk into the kitchen and smiles spread across their faces

"Hey Ayla" Caroline greeted and Ayla smiled in return before walking over and hugging the girls individually

They usually stayed here most of the time since their boyfriends lived here so it wasn't strange to see them in the mornings

"Hey ladies" they all turned to the door once again seeing Enzo, Damon and Stefan walked in and Ayla guessed they had all gone somewhere together. They walked inside and Ayla walked over to the sink making herself something to drink. Once the boys said hello to their girlfriends they hugged Ayla

They had always found her to be a little sister to them and the girls all understood

"Guess who got a date!?" Kai's voice ran through the house before he came inside the kitchen with a giant smile across his face. His eyes moved to Ayla first who was looking inside the fridge and he almost cancelled the date just looking at her. His eyes lingered on hers, staring in awe as the word 'beautiful' ran through his mind. He shook his head slightly and looked to everyone else

"Who?" Caroline asked confused. Ayla shut the door finally and acknowledged her friend, sending kai a smile which he slightly returned

"Me obviously" he stated bluntly. Silence surrounded them all as they tried to sneakily glance to Ayla who's heart broke at the words, yet they could see she was concealing it, and pretty well at that

She continued pouring herself down orange juice and smiled up at Kai

"That's great Kai" she spoke with a smile since no one else did. She knew why they were all quiet but she didn't want Kai to be suspicious
"Who is she?" Her voice didn't hold any jealousy or resentment, and neither did her face and that kind of hurt Kai. He thought that maybe she would care that he had potentially found someone, but that wasn't the case

"Right- Uh. Her names Kayla, blue eyes, blonde hair and she works in the grill now" a fake smile plastered on his face as he thought about it

"That's great Kai" she looked over to everyone who was looking at her with sympathy and they snapped out of it

Damon: "Yeah, well when you become official, bring her to meet us" Kai was happy about his date earlier, thinking he would find someone that could take his mind of Ayla. But now he hated it knowing she didn't at least care

"I will. I'm meeting her soon so I better go" he said before he started exiting the house. Once he was gone Ayla turned away as she tried to conceal her tears

"Don't cry" Enzo's arms wrapped around her shoulders and she laid her head on his chest, wiping away her tears

"He's gonna realise it's you he wants" Caroline said

"He just doesn't like me that way" she whispered shaking her head
"It's totally fine"

"But he does" Bonnie assured
"We can all see it Ayla. When he's with you, looking at you. Even then we could see he wanted to see what you thought about it" Ayla couldn't bring it to herself to believe it, her heart ached knowing that Kai liked someone else

"I'm gonna go upstairs" she whispered and Enzo lifted his arms off her allowing her to leave

Once she was fully up the stairs Stefan turned to everyone

"We need to figure out how to make them see it" Damon smiled and pulled a tape recorder out of his pocket

"Already ahead of you brother"

When Kai walked into her room that night she didn't think anything of it. They always hung out but she did think he would stop since he's seeing someone now

Everyone had left the house to do something Ayla didn't care about so it left the two of them

"How was your date Kai?" Kai didn't go. Once he heard the tape Damon played to him he couldn't bring himself to. Ayla liked him back, was all he could think of

"Why do you pretend to care?" The question was surprising and stunned her

"W-what?"

"Why do you pretend to care?" he repeated and Ayla looked down to avoid meeting his gaze

"I want you to be happy"

"You would rather me, have a fraction of happiness with someone else. Than a lifetime with you?" Ayla looked up slowly, confused at why he was saying. He almost made it seemed like he liked her
"Oh my gosh. Ayla your oblivious" he chuckled sitting on the bed in front of her
"Damon played me a tape of you saying you liked me or whatever. Why didn't you tell me?" Red blush creeped up on the sides of her face

"I didn't think you liked me in that way" she whispered

"You couldn't see? How every time I'm in a room, I'm by your side? Or how I always compliment what your wearing because you look stunning all the time?"

"I-I just thought you was being nice"

"Nice? Ayla I'm in love with you"

"But what about that girl?"

"I didn't go on the date. I couldn't because I knew whatever I could potentially feel for her could never match what I feel for you" her hands slowly reached up and trailed along the side of his face. Goosebumps crept along his arms at the soft touch

"I love you too Kai" their lips both met in the middle and his arms were immediately on her waist as he lowered her back to the bed and hovered above her, their lips not detaching at the movement
