THE PEOPLE OF CAPERMINE HAVE ALWAYS FEARED THE BOXTROLLS FOR AS LONG AS THEY COULD REMEMBER. It is unknown how the creatures came to be, but it started with a few simple items going missing, before sightings of them were heard of and the people conspired rumours about their ferocious behaviours.
THE SUDDEN DISAPPEARANCE OF A BABY BOY DIDN'T HELP WITH THE FACT THAT A WELL-KNOWN BOXTROLL EXTERMINATOR DISCLOSED INFORMATION ON HOW A BOXTROLL WAS INVOLVED IN THE MAKINGS OF THIS. The very boxed-creatures were feared and resented even more now. Many stories were told of how they devoured any human crossing their path and how they scattered that baby boy's very bones all over into a mountain of other human bones.
ALTHOUGH, THAT SAME BOY HAPPENED TO GROW STILL WITH THE BOXTROLLS AND HAS ADAPTED TO THEIR LIFESTYLE FOR MANY YEARS. And, as the years go by, many boxtrolls are captured and never heard from again. The extermination group has grown more popular and is looked up to, as the leader's goal is to obtain a golden belled top hat with a cog works pocket watch, in order to be a part of the prestige group of lords and ladies.
FROM THIS, THE BOY LIVING AMONG THE BOXTROLLS WILL HAVE FINALLY HAD ENOUGH OF LOSING MEMBERS OF THE ONLY FAMILY HE HAS. And so, he sets off out into the 'Upper World' to find answers, save his family and put a stop to the extermination of boxtrolls, once and for all!
