"Why do you dislike me "I asked Jake who sat across from me face void of emotion as always.
Great Just what I need
Nate and Nora were still hung up on their new video game because of someone (cough, cough "daddy) so I decided to take advantage of that time and spend some time with Jake and fix our dry friendship
And what better way to spend it than in our favorite cafe the donut shack because No one makes donuts as they do?
"And what gave you that impression, "he asked with a look of surprise spread across his face
"Idk.....maybe because you never want to hang out with me, you avoid me in class and as soon as my name comes out of Nate or Nora's mouth you suddenly become uninterested and also-"he cut me off as I was about to continue
"Ok ok I get it but that doesn't mean I dislike you there's more to the story than just the outside you should know this don't just assume things by the way they look "he scowled at frustration
I raised my eyebrow at him
"Well I can't help but assume things when you don't tell me anything" I muttered under my breath loud enough for him to hear. me anything. sooner or later we're going to have to get along so why not work on it now? I just want you to open up to me "I reasoned with him
He sighed "fine but don't expect me to be all friendly after this
We sat in a comfortable silence until I broke it "okay well.."I dragged out and then he cut me off "Your right about the disliking part, I guess
Great just when I was giving him the benefit of doubt
I waited for him to continue
"The truth is I feel jealous when you and Nate hang out even Nora and we bicker all the time before you came it was just us 3 we had our favorite places to go to but when you came into the picture and they found a new spot for us to hang out I felt left out I felt like I was being replaced so yeah I acted like I didn't like you but in reality, I was envious of you that it only took one day for them to get along with you. with me, it took a whole week for them to warm up to me but I guess that was expected as I'm not the best person to get along with so yeah that's my reason" he explained bitterly looking at me in a scrutinizing gaze
I sat there stunned as I finally heard the truth, I didn't know he was feeling that way it took me by surprise.
"Omg Nate I'm so sorry I never realized you felt that way and I take fault for not paying attention to you enough, "I said disappointed in myself
"It's fine I wasn't making it easier for you I guess, "he said averting his gaze away from my concerned ones
I stood up from my chair and walked around the table to him and brought him into a warm crushing hug
He felt hesitant at first but soon relaxed into my arms as he muttered a muffled "I'm sorry" said cocooning me in his arms. He released me shoving me gently into the chair beside him.
He cleared his throat "that's enough touching "he mumbled pretending he wasn't the pinkest I've ever seen him.
I giggled at his attempt on trying to act nonchalant like we didn't have a heartfelt moment
But it's fine now that he opened up to me hopefully our friendship blooms from here on out. Just one step at a time
