I fell in love
With the sounds of scratching pens
The smell of coffee and new books
The burnt orange of a foggy sunrise
Lips mouthing words as you read along the passage

I fell in love
With the sharp, brash letters of Mathematics
Swooping, feathery English script
The crumbling ruins and forgotten conquests of History
Bright compounds and titrations scripted along the pages

I fell in love
With the sense of satisfaction
After doing a problem set
The peace and tranquility of my mind
When I show up prepared for a test

I fell in love
With seeing As in the margins of my report card
A sign that I'm not wasting my life by working hard
Friends and parties come and go
But I spent my Friday nights memorizing how a plant grows

I fell in love
With the fact that I am more than my accomplishments
But that doesn't mean that I won't
Change the world before it ends.
