I fell in love
With the sounds of scratching pens
The smell of coffee and new books
The burnt orange of a foggy sunrise
Lips mouthing words as you read along the passageI fell in love
With the sharp, brash letters of Mathematics
Swooping, feathery English script
The crumbling ruins and forgotten conquests of History
Bright compounds and titrations scripted along the pagesI fell in love
With the sense of satisfaction
After doing a problem set
The peace and tranquility of my mind
When I show up prepared for a testI fell in love
With seeing As in the margins of my report card
A sign that I'm not wasting my life by working hard
Friends and parties come and go
But I spent my Friday nights memorizing how a plant growsI fell in love
With the fact that I am more than my accomplishments
But that doesn't mean that I won't
Change the world before it ends.
