Seb crouched down and was nearly knocked off of his feet as the kids launched themselves at him.
"Daddy!" screamed Heidi.
"Papa," shrieked Oliver. Myah just hugged him tightly. Next to him Savannah hugged Max and Casey tightly. Bruno began barking excitedly inside the house.
"Come on in out of the cold!" Heike told them. "Children, come on let them inside."
Reluctantly the children let go of their respective parents and headed back inside. Heike shut the front door behind them. Once she had done so she pulled Seb and Savannah into a big hug.
"Welcome home! How was Aruba?"
"A lot warmer than here!" joked Seb. "Hello Mother, how are you? Have the children been good?"
"I'm good thanks Sebastian. And yes they have been good. Little angels."
"And Father? Has he behaved?"
"When does your father ever behave?" Heike laughed.
"That is true. Where is he anyway?"
"I've sent him to the shop for some milk. Oliver decided to help himself to some this morning and spilt it all over the kitchen floor."
"I thought you said they'd been angels."
"They have!" Seb shook his head incredulously. His mother would say they were angels no matter what they did. They had her wrapped around their little fingers.
"Sav!" Oliver said, holding his arms up to his stepmother. She picked him up and hugged him. "I missed you Sav."
"I missed you too Oli." And she had. She'd missed all five of them.
"Come through to the kitchen. I literally just boiled the kettle," Heike said.
"Mother, you are an angel. I tell you something, walking out of the airport in Zurich was a shock to the system," Seb said, following his mother through to the kitchen, pulling his beanie off of his head and chucking it onto the table. "After ten days of sunshine, I'd forgotten it was midwinter here."
"Tea? Hot chocolate?"
"I'll have a hot chocolate please Mother. Might as well while I can. I start full time training again on Monday."
"Savannah?"
"I'll have the same thanks Heike," she replied, putting Oliver down and taking her coat off.
"You look well, you have wonderful tans."
"That does happen when you're on a Caribbean island Mother," Seb said cheekily, earning himself a playful clip round the ear.
"Cheeky devil!" He laughed and opened one of the cupboards. He pulled out a packet of chocolate chip cookies and opened them. He offered the packet out to Savannah and his mother. Both declined. He shoved one into his mouth.
"So tell me more about your honeymoon," Heike said.
"You don't really want to know do you Mother? You might get embarrassed," Seb replied with another cheeky grin. Savannah felt herself turning bright red.
"I'm going to go and see the kids," she said, getting out of there as quickly as she could. She heard Seb laughing and Heike scolding him.
Walking into the playroom, she sat down on the sofa between Myah and Heidi, hugging them both.
"Hey girls. Oh I missed you all so much," she told them.
"We missed you too Sav. We love Oma but she is so bossy. Opa thinks so too," Heidi said. Savannah tried not to laugh. She could well imagine Norbert saying that.
